ACOUSTIC
Acoustic is the science of
sound which deals with the
property of sound wave,
their origin, propagation
and their obstacles.
3
 Sound is a vibration in elastic medium with
definite frequency and intensity which can
be hear by human ear.
 On the basis of frequency, sound are
classified in three types:
1. Infrasound.
2. Audible sound.
3. ultrasound.
CLASSIFICATION OF
SOUND
INFRASOUND :
5
 Infrasound is sound that is lower
in frequency than 20HZ .
 sound waves with frequencies
below the lower limit of human
audibility
o EXAMPLE
earthquakes
volcanoes
meteors
rocket
storms
TYPES OF
PARTITION WALL
AUDIBLE SOUND :
6
 Audible sound is the sound wave
having frequency between 20HZ
to 20KHZ are called audible
sound.
 The human ear can only
recognize sound of frequencies in
the range of 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz
o EXAMPLES
drums
tuning fork
human voice
TYPES OF
PARTITION WALL
ULTRASOUND :
7
 Ultrasound is sound waves with
frequencies higher than the
audible limit of human hearing.
 nominally includes anything over
20,000 Hz.
o EXAMPLES
dog whistle.
detection of ships and objects
underwater.

WHAT IS ACOUSTICAL MATERIALS :
Acoustical materials are a variety of
foams, fabrics, metals, etc. used to quiet
workplaces, homes, automobiles, and so
forth to increase the comfort and safety
of their inhabitants by reducing noise
generated both inside and outside of
those spaces.
TYPES OF ACOUSTIC MATERIALS:
1. Sound Absorbers
2. Sound Diffusers
3. Noise Barriers
4. Sound Reflectors
9
SOUND ABSORBERS :
● Sound absorption is the loss of sound energy when sound waves
comes into contact with an absorbent material such as ceilings,
walls, floors and other objects, as a result of which, the sound is
not reflected back into the space.
● These sound absorbing acoustical panels and soundproofing
materials are used to eliminate sound reflections to improve
speech intelligibility, reduce standing waves and prevent comb
filtering.
● These materials vary in thickness and in shape to achieve
different absorption ratings depending on the specific sound
requirement.
TYPES OF SOUND ABSORBER:
 Acoustical foam panel
 White paintable acoustical wall panel
 Fabric wrapped panels
 Acoustical wall coverings
 Celling tiles
 Baffles and banners for ceilings
 Fiber glass blankets and roll

12
ACOUSTICAL FOAM PANELS
Acoustic foam is an open celled foam used
for acoustic treatment.
Acoustic foam can be made in several
different colors, sizes and thickness.
WHITE PAINTABLE ACOUSTICAL
WALL PANELS
It is a white acoustical wall panel with a soft
textured appearance
13
FABRIC WRAPPED PANELS
They are adjusted to your sound system to
selectively absorb, diffuse and reflect the
sound to best enhance and acoustically
balance your listening environment
ACOUSTICAL WALL COVERINGS
Acoustic wall fabric is a multidimensional
fab that offers excellent acoustical
properties, unmatched fade resistance, and
a fire and smoke retardant class.
14
CEILING TILES
Ceiling tiles absorb noise and block sound
transmission. They are available in different
pattern.
BAFFLES AND BANNERS FOR
CEILING
Acoustical Baffles are designed to hang
vertically down from the ceiling. Noise
Control, Acoustical Both are very effective
sound absorbers that work well to reduce
reverberation and increase speech
intelligibility..
Sound diffusers are designed to scatter or disperse sound waves,
thereby reducing standing waves and echoes to improve sound clarity.
sound absorbers that trap or eliminate the sound, sound
diffusers maintain the “live” ambience, while at the same time reducing
standing waves and slap echo.
15
SOUND DIFFUSERS
A noise barrier is an exterior structure designed to protect inhabitants
of sensitive land use areas from noise pollution. Noise barriers are the
most effective method of mitigating roadway, railway, and industrial
noise sources.
16
NOISE BARRIERS
Sound Reflectors or diffusers effectively reduce interfering reflections
in any one particular direction by helping to distribute the sound more
evenly across the space.
17
SOUND REFLECTORS
Good acoustics means that the voice can easily reach the listening ears,
as the sound waves are direct and only pass the ears once.
● According to classic acoustics theory there are
five requirements which, when met, result in good acoustics:
● an appropriate reverberation time.
● uniform sound distribution.
● an appropriate sound level.
● an appropriately low background noise.
● no echo or flutter echo.
