Seia is located 550 meters above sea level on the west slope of Serra da Estrela mountain range in a region with temperate summers and cold, snowy winters. The municipality has historical monuments, cultural facilities, and local products that attract visitors to its unique natural scenery of mountains, water, and small villages. However, factors like the loss of agricultural income and lack of jobs have led to depopulation as the population leaves and villages become abandoned, such as one from the 16th century now with only six remaining residents and a closed school.
