This was my first idea for my
contents page based off my
initial pencil sketch. I was
not happy with the spacing I
had to fill with the text and I
also felt that the text needed
to be broken up instead of
just being in three columns
with nothing to dived them. I
scraped this page as no
matter how much fiddling
around I did I could not
make the text and imaging
positioning any better.
I decided to start anew, creating it on an A3 canvas instead of the
previous A4 as I thought I may be able to fit more on the page this
way in terms of images and story detail.
I felt the initial image had to much colour in the background and as I
wanted to focus on the models, I made a subtle change and removed
the colour from the background. I think this helps as the colours in
the image were clashing with the background of the page.
My next step was to add in the stories, while I already had in mind what
would be covered in my magazine so this was simple, however it left me
with empty space again. In stead of expanding on the story descriptions I
decided to add another column for the other ‘regular stuff’ contained in
magazines. This still left me with and empty space so I used another of
my images and I’m glad I did this instead of adding more text as the page
may have looked to text heavy.

I toned down the red in the
boxes from my original colour
red in my first contents page so
as I felt that red was too bright.
Lastly I added the finishing pieces to the page which included the
contents title and a few extra graphics to fill any remaining space
left over.

This is my final finished contents page. You can see the aspects of my
original contents page I kept, the colour scheme and pictures. I am
much happier with this piece as I was able to fill in the empty spaces
and I feel it looks more interesting and professional.
