This document provides an overview of Matilde Giglio's MSc dissertation which examines the participatory dynamics of Leaders Live, a series of online political debates between UK party leaders and young voters. The dissertation aimed to investigate how participation was enabled and limited at different levels based on interviews with the producer and audience members. The dissertation provides context on Leaders Live, which allowed both in-studio and online audience participation. It also reviews literature on democratic participation and mediated participation through television audience discussion programs and online platforms. The theoretical framework examines how participation relates to different democratic models and the three aims of representation, interrogation and mobilization.
