Have you learned how to stop nervousness yet? Do you realize the need for it? Picture this...
You’re five minutes away from performing in front of a crowd and you feel the adrenaline rushing through you. In the next minute, however, you realize that your excitement is dangerously bordering on nervousness. What will you do?
People don’t usually see the need to learn how to stop nervousness until they really need it and by then, it’s usually too late. Learn how to deal with it right this minute!
Step 1: Be Excited.
One thing you can do to curb your butterflies is to let your excitement carry you through until the end of your performance or presentation.
What usually happens is that you get excited for a while, but then you find yourself entertaining all these “what ifs” in your head. What if I screw up? What if they don’t like me?
Thoughts like these poison your excitement, leading to the sudden need to excuse yourself. Don’t give these negative emotions a chance to slip through your psyche. Be excited and think only of how pumped you are and nothing else.
Step 2: Whistle A Happy Tune.
If you want to know how to stop nervousness, then why don’t you try whistling a happy tune? It’s a simple trick to help you channel your feelings on a more positive note.
The more upbeat your tune, the better you’ll feel. The great thing about this technique is that you don’t need to have a lot of time for it. If you’re minutes away from stepping onstage, you can quickly whistle or hum something backstage.
Step 3: Center Yourself.
Sometimes, learning how to stop nervousness involves a little peace and quiet. Find some place where you can be alone and close your eyes. Take deep breaths and focus on the stillness of the moment.
In a low voice, tell yourself that what you are bigger than any challenges that await you, that you are about to do what you are meant to do. That way, you can go do your thing without thinking too much about the details.
Learning how to stop nervousness is very important. Right now, you have free time to absorb these steps. If you wait any longer, you’ll find yourself minutes away from making the biggest presentation of your life and without anything to help you get through it.
