Automation for navigate the blind
people
Introduction
 Automation :The technique, method or system of operating or
controlling a process by highly automatic means, as by
electronic devices, reducing human intervention to a minimum.
 The biggest benefit of automation is that it saves labor, it is also
used to save energy and materials and to improve quality,
accuracy and precision.
 Automation has been achieved by various means including
mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, electronic and
computers, usually in combination. Complicated systems, such
as modern factories, airplanes and ships typically use all these
combined techniques.
Introduction-Automation for
Blind
 Blind mobility is one of the main challenges that scientists are
still facing around different parts of the world.
 According to the World Health Organization, approximately
0.4% of the population is blind in industrialized countries while
the percentage is rising to 1% in developing countries
 Automation is used to provide the direction information as well
as information to avoid obstacles based on ultrasonic sensors.
Trends
 The main aim of this system is used to enable blind people to
move with the same ease and confidence as a sighted people.
 In cane method, an ultrasonic sensor is placed in cane which
detects the obstacle in the ground level.
 The disadvantage in this cane method is the most widespread
means that is used today by the visually impaired people, it
could not help them to detect dangers from all levels of
obstacles.
Trends-Next five years
 The new system is linked with a GSM-GPS module to pin-point
the location of the blind person and to establish a two way
communication path in a wireless fashion.
 Smart phones :Allow blind people to listen to voice mails and
even write and send emails.
 GSM-GPS module will used in different areas of human activity,
such as the navigation of vehicles and navigation aids to guide
visually impaired pedestrian and let them to avoid obstacles and
reach their destination.
Interest Areas
 My interest is to prevent the daily accidents in blinds life and to
enable blind people to move with the same ease and confidence
as a sighted people.
 A beeper, an accelerometer sensor and vibrator are also added
to the system. The whole system is designed to be small, light
and is used in conjunction with the white cane.
 I will intent to work on GSM_GPS module, to develop another
module that comprising different sensing devices to navigate
the blind and partially sighted people and to save the human
valuable life.
