Project Summaries
Marion Environmental, Inc. (Three Major Projects)
• Construct a strapping chart for a jet fuel tank at an air force base
o Required to calculate the volume of a 20,000 gallon for every 1/16th
of an inch
o Involved researching existing construction plans, taking physical measurements,
producing three dimensional figures, performing calculus, and tabulating in Excel
• Dig and haul project after gasoline spill in Chattanooga, Tennessee and after diesel
spill in Oxford, Alabama
o Directed operators where to excavate, collected conformation soil samples, and
designed final figures of excavated area
o Calculated stock pile volumes and weights of contaminated material (Within 3%
in Oxford, Chattanooga Jury is still out)
Senior Design Project (Two Major Projects)
• Design a brine extraction well and associated structures near Carlsbad, New Mexico
after the moratorium (due to multiple catastrophic collapses) was lifted in the area:
o Responsible for analyzing subsurface lithology through the interpretation of
multiple geophysical logs, constructing cross-sections and other applicable
figures, and performed extensive calculations (pressure, volume, budget,
logistics, etc.) for the construction process, as well as life span of the well
• Phase I Environmental Assessment of a leaking underground storage tank:
o Project consisted of analyzing contamination levels in multiple monitoring wells to
delineate and calculate the volume of the contamination plume
Subsurface Site Characterization (Three Major Projects)
• Individual project involving the completion of boring description logs from a number
of boreholes at a site subject to contamination from a leaking underground pipe
• Individual project assessing potential for halite dissolution that involved the analysis
of geophysical logs from 78 wells near the Texas-New Mexico border
• Group project (Group Leader) that required the production of a conceptual model of
pesticide contamination of groundwater and surface water at the University of
Mississippi Field Station. As group leader, Paul Robinson, administered and
organized design project responsibilities to five other undergraduate engineering
students
Field Geology – Rapid City, South Dakota (Five Major Projects)
• Construction of two stratagraphic columns and a correlation of four stratagraphic
columns
• Geologic mapping of sedimentary lithologies near Lakota Peak in South Dakota
• Geologic mapping of Precambrian metamorphic rocks to determine the source
location and migration path of a contamination plume in the town of Nemo, South
Dakota
• Geologic mapping of igneous rocks and calculating the volume of a drainage basin
in order to determine if the site was suitable for the placement of an earthened dam
*All projects involved extensive research, calculations, writing a technical report, and advanced computer programs
(i.e. – Excel, Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, GIS, etc.)*
• Determine the geologic stability of a road cut using RockFall software
*All projects involved extensive research, calculations, writing a technical report, and advanced computer programs
(i.e. – Excel, Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, GIS, etc.)*
