PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING STATEMENT 2
I believe knowledge is far more valuable when shared. Thus, teaching is especially
paramount since it imparts knowledge to others as educators help instill skills in students as they
transition to higher learning.
Conception of Teaching and Learning
Effective teaching focuses on the learning process rather than on the result. A process in
which students are learning more information about the subject from experience and exposure,
instead of just acquiring skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, effective questioning,
and reasoning although these skills are essential aspects of education. Students learn best through
a project-based learning model that is infused with appropriate technology. For example, a class
examines the development of important U.S documents, and then the students present an
explanation of the U.S model and make recommendations for improvement. This activity is a
prime example of effective teaching, because it presents the students with the opportunity to go
through the process of researching and understanding the development that the U.S went
through to produce various documents that are considered vital to our government.
Teaching Methodology
My teaching will involve daily lesson plans that contain films and lectures about the topic
and a guided activity with access to several sources (e.g. library, textbooks, articles, the internet)
to assist with research and comprehension. The role I will take is a facilitator: a mentor to guide
the students’ thinking and to address needs through effective questioning and adjustments to the
lesson if necessary.
In my classes, students will be assessed through oral examinations; they will present their
“product” while I ask effective questions that relate to the lesson. For a long unit, I will use
formative assessments (e.g. paper-based exams] that will assess them in particular areas. Some

risks do present themselves such as creating scenarios from complicated subjects, which may
consume my prep time. Since the lesson of that day can be short but lengthy and it may take
away time from students from learning other topics within state standards.
Justification of My Teaching Style
A few reasons for my teaching style is I can focus more on the learning process of my
students through the interaction I will have as they are researching material for their work. I can
have a private conversation with the students and answer any doubts they may have of the
material and help them stay focused on the problem they are trying to solve. Additionally, I can
focus on instilling positive behavior in my students, since they will need to learn how to work
collaboratively with each other as they explore the subject and complete the homework and
guided activities.
Overall, I continue to believe that knowledge is far more valuable when shared. Teachers
who enter this field are the ones who will influence the students’ lives and their learning as they
continue to succeed and advance in their studies. Without teachers today, students wouldn’t have
the capacity to process all the information that exists and articulate the material in well thought
out answers.
