1. What are Files?
Files are our images, downloaded documents
and books, songs, videos, etc. They are stored
in respective applications (apps).
 To see your photographs, you need to
tap the Photos apps icon, or if you
want to access your songs, you tap and
open your music app icon.
2. What are Applications?
 Commonly referred to as “apps”
 Apps are used for varying purposes: access the
Internet, camera, calendar, playlists, social media,
etc.
 Apps are represented as icons on the screen
Accessing Applications
 Simply tap on an icon to start the application
 For example, on the iPad, to start web
browsing, you’d touch the Safari icon (Safari is
the name of the web browser).
 Your browser window appears with the search
box
Closing Applications
 To close an app, double-press the home button
 All your running apps will appear on the screen; simply
swipe up to close a running app
 You can also completely stop an app from running
through Background App Refresh options found in
Settings > General
3. What are Folders?
 Folders store your files and applications (photos,
video, notes, songs) and help to keep your files
and applications organized
Creating Folders
 Hold down finger on an app. All the apps on your
screen will begin to shake
 Drag the apps you want on top of each other to
group
Creating Albums for Photos
 Tap a plus sign when you are in a window that shows
existing albums and a dialogue box will open for you to
name a new folder, then move photos to the album, or
 Select multiple photos and click More… to find option
‘move to’ and you will be offered an option to move to an
existing album or to create a new album
4. Downloading Applications
To get new apps on your portable device, they
must be downloaded from the online App store
 In order to get onto the Apple App Store, you
must use you Apple ID and password
 Once you log-in you with your credentials can
begin browsing for apps

Find the App Store icon
 Search for the app you would like to download.
Tap on an app name to see its full description
 When you find an app or media that you like, tap on
the option to ‘download’ it.

Opening an Apple Account
To download apps, you need to have an Apple Account
open.
 You will be asked to provide contact information,
password and username, a security question and
answer.
Confirming the Registration
You will also need to provide a ‘rescue’ email that Apple can communicate
with you in case you do not have access to your phone.
You will also be asked for a credit card number. This is a safety feature for
the Apple corporation for any downloads that cost money. If you download
free apps you are safe.
After completing all this information,
you will be sent an email with a link
that you have to click on to confirm
the registration by logging in with
he username and the password you
created.
