Motivation
Value of Team Collaboration
• See different viewpoints
• Draw on the knowledgebase of your team
• Hearing others' perspectives helps underscore important thoughts and solidify
understanding
• Allows for debate to understand and develop ideas
• Members bring prior history and experiences to collaboration
Conflict Resolution Strategies
• Accommodating
• Accommodating can be a positive resolution
strategy
• Working to each group member's
strengths and working through their
weaknesses
• Compromising
• Team members cooperate for the good of
the group
• Work together to find middle ground on
issues (The Participation Company, 2016)
• Active Listening
• Important to focus on not just what is
being said but why it is being said
• Understanding team member's
perspectives
• Check for understanding and be
engaged (Potler LeHayne, 2019)
Team Strength
• Learning Styles can strengthen the team dynamic
• Each team member can choose parts of projects based of their preference in learning
styles so to play to each other's strengths
• Each part of the project can be presented in a different way, with different learning
style to keep the assignment engaging
• Using different learning styles will maximize the effect on intended audiences
Crucial Communication Skills
for An Effective Team
Keep an Open mind
Active Listening
Giving and Receiving Feedback
Be Respectful
Set clear objectives
Respect Diversity
Respect and communication are
crucial to establishing an effective
classroom team. (AFT 2010)
The Purpose of Using the Team Learning Charter
Teaming takes time, patience, communication,
organization, and discipline
(University of Phoenix ,2019)
 Effective written and verbal communication
among team members.
 Assess team members skills and resources
 Set Team Goals
 Members are committed
 Start planning
The most important step for creating effective
teams?
It’s called “Chartering.” Chartering is the
process by which the team is formed, its
mission or task described, its resources
allocated, its goals set, its membership
committed, and its plans made. (University of
Phoenix,2019)
A good charter creates a recipe or roadmap for
the team as it carries out its charge.
The Purpose of Using the Learning Team Charter :
Achieving Team Success
• Trust: Be honest; work to eliminate conflicts of interest; trust teammates (you must trust them before they will trust you); give
team members the benefit of the doubt.
• 2. Clarify Roles: Review team member roles frequently; clarify responsibilities when action planning; relate team member
expectations to team’s overall purpose; figure out ways to help each other.
• 3. Communicate Openly & Effectively: Work to clear up misunderstandings quickly and accurately; seek to understand all
perspectives; err on the side of over communicating; reinforce and recognize team member efforts. Learn to listen well.
• 4. Appreciate Diversity of Ideas: Evaluate a new idea based on its merits; remember that reasonable people can and do differ with
one another; avoid remarks that draw negative attention to a person’s unique characteristics; try to learn as much as you can
from others.
• 5. Balance the Team’s Focus: Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of team meetings; design individual performance
goals that emphasize both results and teamwork; praise individual effort; assign specific team members to monitor task needs
and others to monitor relationship needs; hold team celebrations for achieving results. (Belgrad, Fisher & Rayner,1995)
Effective Components Necessary for Team
Success
Components
• Teamwork is an essential part at being a success in
performing duties and tasks. This is where teams pull
together as a diverse group in order to succeed at one
goal. This is where components come in to help teams
achieve working together as one.
• Commitment and trust means the team is fully
committed in achieving every goal they have set. Trust
shows that all members are working toward the same
goal.
• When it comes to open lines of communication
“communication must be honest and flow between all
team members equally” (Ingram, 2019). In addition must
always communicate about any and all issues or concerns.
• Diversity of capabilities, changing conditions and creative
confidence work together in order for a team to possess a
wide range of challenges. The team will be successful in
these components by using these strategies, goals and
tasks in order to be a change for the team when there is
rallying together. Furthermore, creativeness within the
team will help when it comes to bringing together all
elements for effective teamwork such as trusting each
other with new ideas and initiatives.
The Components:
 Commitment and trust
 Open lines of communication
 Diversity of capabilities
 Adapting to changing conditions
 Being creative with confidence
Components continued
• Teamwork pulls together a group of
diverse individuals who come together in
order to complete a particular task. In
addition to this, “teamwork is as much a
science as it is an art; some teams work
extremely well together, while others seem
to fall apart or actually hinder progress.
Knowing the elements for effective
teamwork can help you to build and
maintain high-performance teams
throughout your organization” (Ingram,
2019).
Teamwork make the dream work!
Motivational Strategies
• Motivational strategies are ways to help teams become
more productive as well as go the extra mile when it comes
to getting the job done. Being able to recognize another
teammates great work will inspire them to work harder and
to push toward a set goal.
• By setting small goals that are obtainable means it will be
easier for the team to reach a milestone. For example,
“Celebrating milestones is also about understanding the
challenges your people are facing” (Skilbeck, 2019).
• As we know praise is always welcome, so providing
meaningful feedback to teammates tells them you have
been paying attention and how their contribution has
benefitted the team.
• Lastly, staying positive and taking breaks will raise the
productivity level within the team and it will play a big role
in the success of the team and its goals.
• These are just a few motivational strategies that can be used
to help teammates get along and perform in a positive way
to help increase productivity as a team.
There are simple ways to have motivational
strategies which will increase productivity
within a team and these include:
 Being able to recognize great work
 Setting small goals that are obtainable
 Provide meaningful feedback
 Most of all is staying positive and taking
breaks

Editor's Notes

  • #4: Have students brainstorm first what values they believe can be beneficial in collaboration. Then click through the different bullet points and ask them to give examples of each value listed.
  • #6: It's important from the start to assign roles based on strengths of each team member to enhance the project.  Keeping the presentation flowing with different learning styles will get more of the audience's attention and be able to hold their attention for longer.  The intended audience can process information more effectively when different learning styles are used because they can relate more and graps concepts more fluently.
  • #7: Discuss with group ,what is the biggest communication skill  that is not easily mastered.
  • #8: The Learning charter form can be downloaded from the university of Phoenix website by connecting to the Library . The chartering process shouldn’t be rushed , each member should take the time to learn and get to know their team.
  • #9: Team Success is achieved through these points, but following the team charter put in place by  teams should be frequently reviewed and revisited for changes if needed.
  • #11: Can a team be succesful without one or more of these components? Can one component carry more weight than another?
  • #12: Teamwork is developed by using the diverse strengths of each member and acknowledging them.
  • #13: Motivation is team unit is essential . When group members set their sights on a goal , small goals are developed to increase motivation to reach the main goal.
