Practical Problems and Solutions -
Podcast
• I still have not completely decided whether or not I am going to film this podcast, and then upload it to YouTube,
or whether or not it will be entirely audible, so I am going to cover both bases. Firstly, if I am to film this podcast
there are quite a few areas which I need to consider covering. Firstly an issue could be that I do not know how to
use the cameras provided, and what type of camera settings will be necessary. The camera I would be using would
be from college and is a DSLR camera. I would have to consider aspects such as the battery power on the camera
and also making sure the SD card is not full. The solutions to these first problems are to bring a spare battery, or
even a spare camera, or more depending on how many angles are necessary. Another solution is to make sure the
battery is fully charged before using it, and also fully charge a spare battery. With the SD card, I could check before
hand and with permission, remove any photos that are no longer needed to free up memory. Alternatively I could
make sure to have a spare SD card.
• Another potential issue could be due to the lighting, and the effect this has on quality of the video, It may not look
too great as I am not too familiar with using the lighting equipment in the studio, therefore I do not know what
settings would be appropriate, and how to adjust it, and also small elements such as where to position the
lighting. Potential solutions for this problem could be practice making a quick video/ podcast and see what areas
of it don’t look good and how I could improve it in terms of adjusting the light to what would look the best in the
actual product. Another way I could overcome this potential issue is by researching how lighting is used in other
videos. I could also deal with any lighting issues by editing the footage on premier pro and adjusting the settings
of the picture there to try make the quality look better.
• Another issue I could face is if the footage was lost by either the SD card going missing, or the data being
corrupted. One of the ways I would try to avoid this is by regularly saving my work and backing it up in more than
just one location, for example saving it to the desktop as well as saving it onto a memory stick.
Practical Problems and Solutions –
Podcast- continued
• One other aspect to consider is that I have never created a podcast before and my general ability when it
comes to being on one, so I do not know how putting it together works, especially if it is recorded, and
whether or not I have to sync up the audio to the footage, as that is something I have not yet done. This
problem could also result in an issue regarding using the microphones, for example I may sit too close or
too far from the mic, this would effect the audio and may frustrate the listeners. As a solution to this I
think one of the best ways of helping me with these potential problems is to do a very quick and short
experimental podcast. This will allow me to gain an understanding of all these things such as how to sync
up the audio properly, as well as an understanding of the small things such as how close I should be sat to
the mic and how loud I should be speaking,. This would also help me asses other areas of the podcast,
such as if I need to speak clearer or in the way I put my thoughts across, such as if I seem like I am
speaking too much without letting the other person speak, or conversely if I am not speaking enough.
Another way of adapting to these problems is by looking at my existing product research and watching
even more podcasts to see how other hosts act. As it is something I have not done before I am also
questioning my ability in terms of being able to keep the podcast flowing without referring to a script to
much, this could be an issue as it would slow the tempo down and also if it is being recorded as a video it
may look less professional if keep having to refer to notes. However I can always try make the podcast
appear to be smoother by editing the video on premier pro and cutting out clips if I accidentally repeat
something or hesitate too much. However using premier pro could also be another potential issue as I
have not used it in a long time and I don’t have that good of an ability in editing, although this shouldn’t
be too much of an issue as the only editing necessary will be small cuts and adding music.
Practical Problems and Solutions –
Podcast- continued
• Another area which I am yet to work on is creating a jingle for my podcast. I have never done this before
and I also have very little knowledge on creating music. I am going to use the app ‘Garageband' in order to
create the jingle, and I will watch tutorials on the app in order to try emulate them. Another helpful
solution to this is by asking one of the tutors who has used it quite a lot to show me some of the basics
and how to properly use the application.
• If I choose to record the podcast outside of college, I think I will face much more difficulty, and this also
means I probably will not be able to film using a camera and I could not turn it into a YouTube video and it
would be just audio as if I was to use a camera at home, firstly I would not be able to film who id like to,
and also the quality would be significantly weaker as I would not have the mics to use or good lighting
equipment. The solution to this is obviously just create the podcast at college first and then continue it at
home for future podcasts once I have got a good understanding at college and learned how to make it as
professional as possible with better equipment for my first one. Alternatively, if I did decide to create it at
home, I could use an application called 'audacity' and follow tutorials on how to create my own podcast
easily, just I feel like the quality would not be as good. One of the problems that could occur with this is if
my computer at home broke and I lost the files. In order to prevent this I would regularly save it and try
send it to my email or OneDrive in order to back it up.
• Lastly for my podcast, although it isn't actually the creation of the podcast itself, part of it will include me
making a logo/ graphic, although this will be similar to the logo I use for the 'KopOnline' brand as a whole,
however with the addition of something like a mic to symbolise the fact it is a podcast. I think one of the
problems with this is I do not excel in using Photoshop and my production ability is not that good,
therefore it may look quite unprofessional. A solution for this would be to practice with experiments and
look at professional design tutorials. Alternatively I could also use my existing product research and try use
similar techniques to these products, and look at the best parts of them and try incorporate that into my
own work.
Practical Problems and Solutions - Articles
• One of the first problems I could potentially face with my articles is if I forgot to save the work and I lost an
article I had spent a lot of time on, one of the ways to ensure this does not happen is by regularly making
sure I save it and backing it up by saving it in multiple places. Another problem I may face is that as I do
not have my own editor, and I am quite unexperienced in writing articles, so they may not be to a high
standard and as professional as a lot of the readers may be used to. A solution to this is by looking at
existing style guides on how to format an article, as this is as much as I can do in order to ensure it appears
as professional as possible. An alternative solution would be to use a spelling and grammar checker, just so
at the bare minimum there is no errors which ruin credibility. As it is literally just writing an article there
are few practical problems that can go well other than the type of errors I have already mentioned. After
doing some audience research, one of the problems I may face is that there is a fairly close split between
the type of people who prefer to read shorter sentences, and the type of people who prefer a more
sophisticated approach. The way I will overcome this is by writing various articles in different writing
styles, for example when I write a news related article I will use the typical conventions such as short
sentences and paragraphs, however if I do an opinion piece I will try and make it much more detailed and
developed, using language devices and more complex sentences in order to reinforce my points. One of
the other problems I could face is if I was writing an article on my laptop and my laptop ran out of charge,
leading me to lose my work. The way to overcome this is to always make sure my laptop is charging,
alternatively I could set reminders to regularly save my work, so if it did happen I would not face a large
setback.
• Another problem I could have with articles is coming up with regular and original content, for example if
there is a period of around 10 days with no game, it is hard to write about content which will stand out a
lot and is not already being produced in a similar format by hundreds of other outlets. The way I will try
resolve this problem is by trying to write as many opinion pieces as possible, as generic things like match
previews are only really good as just content which is there purely to keep the website updated. Those
types of articles are available in lots of different areas so it is unlikely it is something that will make
someone go out their way to look at a new upcoming outlet. As I said though, although I do plan to create
articles like match previews, I intend to mainly create more unique/ opinion pieces.
Practical Problems and Solutions – Articles- continued
• Another potential issue I could have is due to the fact that I have not written many articles in the past,
only a few, which have been match reports or preview type pieces, and only one opinion piece which was
fairly short, this could be a problem as it means the quality of my work may not look too good as I am not
vastly experienced with it, this may lead to people not liking the content and then deciding to not
continue to follow future articles. One of the ways I can solve this is by looking at similar articles and using
their style as guidelines on how to format mine properly.
Practical Problems and Solutions- Website
• One of the first problems I may face with this is with designing the website. Firstly I have never used
WordPress, however I plan to use this as I really do not like using Wix. As I have never used WordPress it
may be a challenge because I have no familiarity with the format and how to use it, so it may have a
negative impact on my website as it may not look as professional, and I do not understand it from a
technical point. One of the ways of overcoming this is by trying some experiments on WordPress and
trying to follow a basic template. Another way I can improve my familiarity is look at exisiting
blogs/websites created on WordPress and looking at the conventions of them and analysing as well as
understanding the key areas of what makes that page succesful/unsuccesful. As part of this inexperience
in using WordPress, I also have a general lack of experience in creating a website, therefore I don't really
know how to insert articles and what type of images to use and how to access things like getty images etc,
as if I have made an article in the past I just placed it into drafts for it to be edited. Like I have already said,
I think the best way to overcome this is by practicing with the website and trying to get used to the
features. I could also talk to people who have used WordPress to make their own website and ask them for
advice, or even follow tutorials on YouTube. Although it is unlikely, another problem could be that while
creating the website I lose internet connection or the device I am using stops working. In order to prevent
this from happening I will have to make sure to regularly save what I am doing and also do the work in a
reliable place where the risk of losing connection is very unlikely. Another potential problem could be
Theoretical problems Podcast
• One of the first theoretical problems which could disrupt the production of creating my podcast is unwanted
noise. For example if there is a lot of people outside of the studio making noise it may be heard in the podcast and
ruin the quality of the podcast and also make it seem less professional. One of the ways of avoiding this potential
issue is to plan to film the podcast at a time where I know it is unlikely there will be interruption in the
surrounding area. I could also try edit our voices in post production by raising the sound of the voices and
cancelling out any unwanted background noise. A fire alarm could also happen as part of a fire drill, this would be
very inconvenient as I would not be informed beforehand that one is going to take place and there is not really a
solution to this unless I ask in advance to double check if my tutor knows when a fire drill is likely to happen.
Further noise related problems could also occur in the form of phone notifications going on in the background.
This is avoidable by making sure that my guest and I make sure to set our phones on silent beforehand or just turn
them off in the first place.
• Another theoretical problem that could take place is if the guest I plan to have on the video is unavailable or does
not have enough time to film it. The first way I can try prepare for this is by letting the guest know in advance how
long the podcast is planned to be as well as letting them know in advance when and where it is I plan to record it.
If they were to be unavailable at the last minute it is important I prepare to have someone else who could come in
and be part of the podcast at the last minute, or even have an alternative date very shortly after which the guest
would definitely be available for. Another problem that could occur is if the guest is unsure on what to say and
struggles with the speaking. One of the ways to prepare for this is by giving the guest a look at the script of
questions/ subjects I have prepared to talk about so they can prepare their answers, although obviously I still
want it to be like a natural conversation but giving them a quick run down in advance would help prepare them
and let them know what type of things they may want to say. Something else which could become an issue is if
the guest or myself accidentally uses profane language, this would be an issue as there may be a younger member
of the audience watching it and then they would not be allowed to watch it in the future, or if people just find that
type of Language offensive. The solution to this is by either making sure to brief the guest before to not use that
kind of language, or if it does accidentally happen I could censor it out in post production.
Theoretical Problems- Articles
• With creating an article it is fairly hard to list theoretical problems, however one of these could be the production
time. I may not be able to finish writing an article in time for a deadline I set myself. I would set deadlines
depending on the subject of the article, for example if I plan to write a match preview, it would be good to have
the preview out around 1-3 days before the fixture, this is because it helps build excitement towards the game and
this time is where fans just want any fix of football of their team, and a preview may also put their nerves about
the game at ease. I could miss this deadline due to unforeseen circumstances/ if I suddenly have to work when I
did not expect to. In order to avoid these issues I will set a strict schedule and make sure I dedicate time to
completing my work for this time as it would also render the price useless and fairly irrelevant if it was a match
preview and it was not ready before the game. It is a similar situation if I create a match report as the hype of the
report and game will only really be useful for the night after the game or for the day after. This means that I would
have to work hard to quickly produce the article and edit it etc and then upload it while people are still interested
in that game, as games can come quickly between each fixture at certain times in football. A way of avoiding any
problems in this scenario is to set a reminder for straight after the game and begin to start writing, or even write
as the game happens to make the report even more detailed.
•
• Another potential issue could be if I did not have internet access to use the usual source I would to write an
article, which is making a document on Google drive. This could happen if there were either connection problems
with the WiFi which are out my control such as it being down in the whole area or if I was somewhere where I am
unable to access my laptop or my laptop suddenly broke. A solution to this is using the notes section on my phone
and try writing it on there so it is ready to be uploaded as soon as I have access again as I can copy and paste the
text and then email it over to myself. Another issue that could occur is if I start to fatigue which could effect the
quality of the writing and make it appear less professional and not to the same standard as other areas of the
article. A solution to this would be to make sure I get enough sleep and make sure I am fully rested. Alternatively,
if I have been working on the article for too long and fatigue is a result of that, I would ensure that the likeliness of
this happening is reduced by setting a schedule to have regular breaks.
Theoretical Problems- Website
• When creating my website I could face some unforeseen problems which are unavoidable. An
example of this could be that the WiFi connection could go down in an area, meaning I can’t create
the website when I intend to and I am delayed. One of the ways of avoiding this is that I could go to
a local library and use the internet there, or visit someone else and use their WiFi. This could also
become a similar problem if the resources at college became unavailable, for example if the college
WiFi systems became unavailable due to maintenance it would delay me, in this situation I would
follow the same situation as visiting somewhere with access to internet. As i plan to create the
majority of my work at college, I could face a problem if suddenly my way of transport to college
became unavailable, this could happen if weather effected the college coach for example or even in
a non weather related situation, the coach broke down, this would mean I would not be able to get
into college and the resources I would be using would not be as good as the ones at college. An
alternative solution to this would be to use a public bus and get into college that way, or get a lift
with a friend. Another possibility could be to try do the work from home.
• A potential problem could also be that the website domain that I use (WordPress) could go down
and the server would be unavailable for me or for people trying to view the website. This would
effect me negatively as it means firstly it could put people off from wanting to view the website in
the future, and also it would effect me as it would mean I can’t update the website and it could fall
behind. A possible solution to this could be to either politely inform people through the website’s
social media, and let them know of a reasonable time frame in which it should be back up, or I
could instead post the article links in a different location and promote that on the social media
page.
Experiments for a logo
Experiment analysis
• These experiments were for my logo/ any graphics I need to create for my FMP, which could be used
across all my products and then also social media pages which I create as part of my product. I first started
with looking at a photoshop tutorial on how to make a sports logo design, I followed this to an extent but
after a while and id grasped where it was going I made my own adjustments with my own skills. This
tutorial did benefit me and I think will make a positive difference for me as I used something I had not
used before. The skill I used and was something I had not previously used was using the anchor point tool,
this allowed me to extend and change shapes and make things myself which previously I would have just
had to find from images and edit myself. I will probably use this skill in my actual product as I need and
want that to be as originally made as I possibly can. Although this was a positive part of my work, I was not
at all satisfied with any of the experiments I made. The first reason for this is because it straight away to
me just doesn't look aesthetically pleasing and also does not look professional or like it took much
technically. One of the areas of this I struggled with the most was trying to get colours that had a real
creative meaning behind them but also looked aesthetically pleasing. I also did not want to try copy
something too much. This concerns me the most as it means that I may not be able to make my
production as good as I would like, however I will try my best in my own time to get more ideas and
practice more with learning new photoshop tehcniques.
Experiment article
Jurgen Klopp’s title challenging reds visit bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday. Liverpool currently sit in second, only behind on Goal
Difference, with a game in hand against leaders Manchester City.
In recent years Liverpool have often struggled against their North West rivals, particularly at Old Trafford in the league. The Red’s last league win at
Old Trafford came in their emphatic 3-0 victory back in March 2014. To find another Liverpool win away at United, you would have to cast your
mind back all the way to 2009, in which Liverpool travelled home with all three points following an iconic 4-1 thrashing.
For anyone superstitious, you can reach the conclusion that in Liverpool’s last two serious title challenges, they won at Old Trafford, coupled with
the fact both victories occurred within five years of each other. 2009...2014...2019?
Back to the present, Liverpool returned to action after a short warm weather training camp in Marbella, while in that time Manchester United have
played twice, suffering defeat against PSG, while bouncing back with a 2-0 victory against an embarrassing Chelsea side.
The Reds last league outing ended in an impressive 3-0-win vs Bournemouth. Not only was this a positive result, but the performance was
particularly encouraging. However, they fell to a frustrating draw against German champions, Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.
Since Ole Gunnar Solskjær took charge at United, they have won more points than any other side, and have proved that on their day, they can beat
anyone with their quick counter-attacking play. Although they have picked up the important points, statistics hint at an element of luck being a
factor in these results. They have out-performed their xG, while conceding less than their xGA.
If Liverpool’s front three are firing at all cylinders, then it’s unlikely United will be able to maintain getting away with conceding so many chances
and not being punished.
Last time the sides met, a double from the substitute Shaqiri gave Klopp’s side a well-deserved 3-1 win. However, this affair will be completely
different with a new manager in place at the Old Trafford dugout, and their team selection and tactics will be completely changed.
Many United fans are looking ahead to the fixture with high expectations due to the turnaround in management and certain players performances
and attitude, however, not having Mourinho in charge is something the Liverpool fans will also be positive about.
The key team news ahead of Sundays clash is that Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are out, which are sure to be a huge miss for United, with
Lingard having scored in front of the Kop last time, and Martial been one of United’s key players all season.
Dejan Lovren is still in contention to be fully fit for the game, and his availability will probably be revealed at the last minute.
Solskjær is likely to play a much more open game than any Mourinho side ever has done, much to the pleasure of Liverpool fans who have watched
countless draws or narrow losses to Mourinho teams. Liverpool benefit the most when teams come at them and don’t sit back all game, so this is
surely going to be an exciting fixture which could go either way.
My predicted Liverpool XI for the game is; Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino,
Mane.
• Experiment article
analysis
1. I think doing this experiment article has helped me a lot, firstly this type of article which
was a match preview is the kind of article I will be writing when I create my own, so this
was a good experience to get used to as I’d never written a preview before. One of the
areas I actually enjoyed of this was writing about something I genuinely have a passion in,
this made it much easier to focus, as it is something I already have a good knowledge on
also, it meant that I knew I was writing in the right type of way and the content I was
discussing was accurate. While writing the article I looked at an existing preview for a
recent game, which was on “LfcTransferRoom”. Although the content differed a lot, as it is
about a different game etc, I tried to format it in a similar way as I was unsure on how to
format a preview. This benefitted me to a large extent as it gave me a rough guideline to
follow, allowing me to structure the article so it did not look all over the place. Another
think I liked about the preview writing is that it has an element of being fairly opinion
based, by using facts to suggest what I as the writer think could happen, this could be a
positive thing in the future as it means that the audience is more likely to engage with it as
an opinion piece, which could influence future people into looking at the article or wanting
to look at future articles. Another aspect of this experiment which will benefit me was that
in order to back up the stats I used to make a point, I found a source known as
“WhoScored.com”. Firstly this is a positive thing as it is a source I did not previously know
existed, so now it is somewhere I can use in the future. It is also a good thing because it
gives my points more credibility as it is actual evidence of a source backing up the stats I
use.

Podcast experiment FMP
• As I mentioned already I had struggled with the post production side of my podcast. However since
then I have done some more work on it, although I am still quite unsatisfied with my progress. I finally
managed to access premier pro, however as I had decided against using the video footage and instead
just using the audio that was recorded on the audio recorders, as i realised that would be better for my
end product as i would be more confident and it would have a positive effect on the actual production I
make as it would mean my presenting skills were better due to my confidence. After Premier Pro did
not work, I tried using Adobe Audition, however I had never used it before and I also did not
understand the tutorials. I only wanted to edit it on a basic level as that’s all that was necessary and also
to get to grips with the editing software. I eventually used a software called Audacity, I didn’t know
really how to use it however I eventually realised how to cut clips and that is all I really needed to do. I
quite liked the simplicity of “Audacity” so I will probably use that when it comes to the post production
of the end product. I have not yet created a jingle as an experiment and I will not have time really to
experiment with a jingle, although I did not create one I did briefly use the GarageBand application and
play around with some settings and gain some familiarity with it. Since trying to upload this experiment,
for whatever reason I can not access the edited podcast, therefore I am going to have to just upload the
raw footage of the unedited audio of the podcast onto SoundCloud as it wont let me on YouTube
without any video footage alongside it. When I tried to access the edited version on Audacity it gave me
an error message. I am glad I have done an experiment as quite a lot has gone wrong and I have learned
a lot about creating a podcast so hopefully it should run slightly smoother when it comes to creating
actual podcasts. However I am still frustrated at how I can not show an edited version of my podcast
and this also means I did not get a lot of time to experiment with the post production side of creating a
podcast. Although I struggled with using Adobe Audition, I am going to try again in the future to get to
grips with it because it is compatible with the mac and I can use it on multiple devices then.

For this experiment I used wix and an already set template. I chose to use wix because it is
something I have used previously, however when I have used it in the past I was not very happy
with it for the reasons that firstly, I find it quite hard to use and also the fact it is harder to
develop technically. One of the few things I do like about using wix though, is that it already sets
up an aesthetically pleasing design in the background. Despite this I mainly do not like using wix,
another reason for this is how they use quite unrelated iamges on thepre set template, also this
would not work for my actual product as I would prefer to use images that are either my own or
that I have had an impact on. As I did not really think this experiment was that good, when it
comes to creating my actual product, I am going to use an alternative domain. I am strongly
considering using WordPress, however I have not previously used that before so that could be a
disadvantage using something I have never used before for my actual product. I think when I use
WordPress, one of the promising things about that is that the design etc is much more
customisable to my own taste and I can try give it more of a personal influence, which can help
portray things easier and demonstrate the use of a creative meaning behind my choices. I do not
think this experiment has helped me much at all, but that is probably my own fault. I think the
first issue is because I used a different website creator to which I plan on actually using, this will
effect me as it means I did not take my chance to gain more familiarity with WordPress, this could
lead to me trying to learn it as I use it in my production, which could be quite time consuming,
meaning I don’t complete my work in time and I struggle to stay inline with my schedule.

  • 2. Practical Problems and Solutions - Podcast • I still have not completely decided whether or not I am going to film this podcast, and then upload it to YouTube, or whether or not it will be entirely audible, so I am going to cover both bases. Firstly, if I am to film this podcast there are quite a few areas which I need to consider covering. Firstly an issue could be that I do not know how to use the cameras provided, and what type of camera settings will be necessary. The camera I would be using would be from college and is a DSLR camera. I would have to consider aspects such as the battery power on the camera and also making sure the SD card is not full. The solutions to these first problems are to bring a spare battery, or even a spare camera, or more depending on how many angles are necessary. Another solution is to make sure the battery is fully charged before using it, and also fully charge a spare battery. With the SD card, I could check before hand and with permission, remove any photos that are no longer needed to free up memory. Alternatively I could make sure to have a spare SD card. • Another potential issue could be due to the lighting, and the effect this has on quality of the video, It may not look too great as I am not too familiar with using the lighting equipment in the studio, therefore I do not know what settings would be appropriate, and how to adjust it, and also small elements such as where to position the lighting. Potential solutions for this problem could be practice making a quick video/ podcast and see what areas of it don’t look good and how I could improve it in terms of adjusting the light to what would look the best in the actual product. Another way I could overcome this potential issue is by researching how lighting is used in other videos. I could also deal with any lighting issues by editing the footage on premier pro and adjusting the settings of the picture there to try make the quality look better. • Another issue I could face is if the footage was lost by either the SD card going missing, or the data being corrupted. One of the ways I would try to avoid this is by regularly saving my work and backing it up in more than just one location, for example saving it to the desktop as well as saving it onto a memory stick.
  • 3. Practical Problems and Solutions – Podcast- continued • One other aspect to consider is that I have never created a podcast before and my general ability when it comes to being on one, so I do not know how putting it together works, especially if it is recorded, and whether or not I have to sync up the audio to the footage, as that is something I have not yet done. This problem could also result in an issue regarding using the microphones, for example I may sit too close or too far from the mic, this would effect the audio and may frustrate the listeners. As a solution to this I think one of the best ways of helping me with these potential problems is to do a very quick and short experimental podcast. This will allow me to gain an understanding of all these things such as how to sync up the audio properly, as well as an understanding of the small things such as how close I should be sat to the mic and how loud I should be speaking,. This would also help me asses other areas of the podcast, such as if I need to speak clearer or in the way I put my thoughts across, such as if I seem like I am speaking too much without letting the other person speak, or conversely if I am not speaking enough. Another way of adapting to these problems is by looking at my existing product research and watching even more podcasts to see how other hosts act. As it is something I have not done before I am also questioning my ability in terms of being able to keep the podcast flowing without referring to a script to much, this could be an issue as it would slow the tempo down and also if it is being recorded as a video it may look less professional if keep having to refer to notes. However I can always try make the podcast appear to be smoother by editing the video on premier pro and cutting out clips if I accidentally repeat something or hesitate too much. However using premier pro could also be another potential issue as I have not used it in a long time and I don’t have that good of an ability in editing, although this shouldn’t be too much of an issue as the only editing necessary will be small cuts and adding music.
  • 4. Practical Problems and Solutions – Podcast- continued • Another area which I am yet to work on is creating a jingle for my podcast. I have never done this before and I also have very little knowledge on creating music. I am going to use the app ‘Garageband' in order to create the jingle, and I will watch tutorials on the app in order to try emulate them. Another helpful solution to this is by asking one of the tutors who has used it quite a lot to show me some of the basics and how to properly use the application. • If I choose to record the podcast outside of college, I think I will face much more difficulty, and this also means I probably will not be able to film using a camera and I could not turn it into a YouTube video and it would be just audio as if I was to use a camera at home, firstly I would not be able to film who id like to, and also the quality would be significantly weaker as I would not have the mics to use or good lighting equipment. The solution to this is obviously just create the podcast at college first and then continue it at home for future podcasts once I have got a good understanding at college and learned how to make it as professional as possible with better equipment for my first one. Alternatively, if I did decide to create it at home, I could use an application called 'audacity' and follow tutorials on how to create my own podcast easily, just I feel like the quality would not be as good. One of the problems that could occur with this is if my computer at home broke and I lost the files. In order to prevent this I would regularly save it and try send it to my email or OneDrive in order to back it up. • Lastly for my podcast, although it isn't actually the creation of the podcast itself, part of it will include me making a logo/ graphic, although this will be similar to the logo I use for the 'KopOnline' brand as a whole, however with the addition of something like a mic to symbolise the fact it is a podcast. I think one of the problems with this is I do not excel in using Photoshop and my production ability is not that good, therefore it may look quite unprofessional. A solution for this would be to practice with experiments and look at professional design tutorials. Alternatively I could also use my existing product research and try use similar techniques to these products, and look at the best parts of them and try incorporate that into my own work.
  • 5. Practical Problems and Solutions - Articles • One of the first problems I could potentially face with my articles is if I forgot to save the work and I lost an article I had spent a lot of time on, one of the ways to ensure this does not happen is by regularly making sure I save it and backing it up by saving it in multiple places. Another problem I may face is that as I do not have my own editor, and I am quite unexperienced in writing articles, so they may not be to a high standard and as professional as a lot of the readers may be used to. A solution to this is by looking at existing style guides on how to format an article, as this is as much as I can do in order to ensure it appears as professional as possible. An alternative solution would be to use a spelling and grammar checker, just so at the bare minimum there is no errors which ruin credibility. As it is literally just writing an article there are few practical problems that can go well other than the type of errors I have already mentioned. After doing some audience research, one of the problems I may face is that there is a fairly close split between the type of people who prefer to read shorter sentences, and the type of people who prefer a more sophisticated approach. The way I will overcome this is by writing various articles in different writing styles, for example when I write a news related article I will use the typical conventions such as short sentences and paragraphs, however if I do an opinion piece I will try and make it much more detailed and developed, using language devices and more complex sentences in order to reinforce my points. One of the other problems I could face is if I was writing an article on my laptop and my laptop ran out of charge, leading me to lose my work. The way to overcome this is to always make sure my laptop is charging, alternatively I could set reminders to regularly save my work, so if it did happen I would not face a large setback. • Another problem I could have with articles is coming up with regular and original content, for example if there is a period of around 10 days with no game, it is hard to write about content which will stand out a lot and is not already being produced in a similar format by hundreds of other outlets. The way I will try resolve this problem is by trying to write as many opinion pieces as possible, as generic things like match previews are only really good as just content which is there purely to keep the website updated. Those types of articles are available in lots of different areas so it is unlikely it is something that will make someone go out their way to look at a new upcoming outlet. As I said though, although I do plan to create articles like match previews, I intend to mainly create more unique/ opinion pieces.
  • 6. Practical Problems and Solutions – Articles- continued • Another potential issue I could have is due to the fact that I have not written many articles in the past, only a few, which have been match reports or preview type pieces, and only one opinion piece which was fairly short, this could be a problem as it means the quality of my work may not look too good as I am not vastly experienced with it, this may lead to people not liking the content and then deciding to not continue to follow future articles. One of the ways I can solve this is by looking at similar articles and using their style as guidelines on how to format mine properly.
  • 7. Practical Problems and Solutions- Website • One of the first problems I may face with this is with designing the website. Firstly I have never used WordPress, however I plan to use this as I really do not like using Wix. As I have never used WordPress it may be a challenge because I have no familiarity with the format and how to use it, so it may have a negative impact on my website as it may not look as professional, and I do not understand it from a technical point. One of the ways of overcoming this is by trying some experiments on WordPress and trying to follow a basic template. Another way I can improve my familiarity is look at exisiting blogs/websites created on WordPress and looking at the conventions of them and analysing as well as understanding the key areas of what makes that page succesful/unsuccesful. As part of this inexperience in using WordPress, I also have a general lack of experience in creating a website, therefore I don't really know how to insert articles and what type of images to use and how to access things like getty images etc, as if I have made an article in the past I just placed it into drafts for it to be edited. Like I have already said, I think the best way to overcome this is by practicing with the website and trying to get used to the features. I could also talk to people who have used WordPress to make their own website and ask them for advice, or even follow tutorials on YouTube. Although it is unlikely, another problem could be that while creating the website I lose internet connection or the device I am using stops working. In order to prevent this from happening I will have to make sure to regularly save what I am doing and also do the work in a reliable place where the risk of losing connection is very unlikely. Another potential problem could be
  • 8. Theoretical problems Podcast • One of the first theoretical problems which could disrupt the production of creating my podcast is unwanted noise. For example if there is a lot of people outside of the studio making noise it may be heard in the podcast and ruin the quality of the podcast and also make it seem less professional. One of the ways of avoiding this potential issue is to plan to film the podcast at a time where I know it is unlikely there will be interruption in the surrounding area. I could also try edit our voices in post production by raising the sound of the voices and cancelling out any unwanted background noise. A fire alarm could also happen as part of a fire drill, this would be very inconvenient as I would not be informed beforehand that one is going to take place and there is not really a solution to this unless I ask in advance to double check if my tutor knows when a fire drill is likely to happen. Further noise related problems could also occur in the form of phone notifications going on in the background. This is avoidable by making sure that my guest and I make sure to set our phones on silent beforehand or just turn them off in the first place. • Another theoretical problem that could take place is if the guest I plan to have on the video is unavailable or does not have enough time to film it. The first way I can try prepare for this is by letting the guest know in advance how long the podcast is planned to be as well as letting them know in advance when and where it is I plan to record it. If they were to be unavailable at the last minute it is important I prepare to have someone else who could come in and be part of the podcast at the last minute, or even have an alternative date very shortly after which the guest would definitely be available for. Another problem that could occur is if the guest is unsure on what to say and struggles with the speaking. One of the ways to prepare for this is by giving the guest a look at the script of questions/ subjects I have prepared to talk about so they can prepare their answers, although obviously I still want it to be like a natural conversation but giving them a quick run down in advance would help prepare them and let them know what type of things they may want to say. Something else which could become an issue is if the guest or myself accidentally uses profane language, this would be an issue as there may be a younger member of the audience watching it and then they would not be allowed to watch it in the future, or if people just find that type of Language offensive. The solution to this is by either making sure to brief the guest before to not use that kind of language, or if it does accidentally happen I could censor it out in post production.
  • 9. Theoretical Problems- Articles • With creating an article it is fairly hard to list theoretical problems, however one of these could be the production time. I may not be able to finish writing an article in time for a deadline I set myself. I would set deadlines depending on the subject of the article, for example if I plan to write a match preview, it would be good to have the preview out around 1-3 days before the fixture, this is because it helps build excitement towards the game and this time is where fans just want any fix of football of their team, and a preview may also put their nerves about the game at ease. I could miss this deadline due to unforeseen circumstances/ if I suddenly have to work when I did not expect to. In order to avoid these issues I will set a strict schedule and make sure I dedicate time to completing my work for this time as it would also render the price useless and fairly irrelevant if it was a match preview and it was not ready before the game. It is a similar situation if I create a match report as the hype of the report and game will only really be useful for the night after the game or for the day after. This means that I would have to work hard to quickly produce the article and edit it etc and then upload it while people are still interested in that game, as games can come quickly between each fixture at certain times in football. A way of avoiding any problems in this scenario is to set a reminder for straight after the game and begin to start writing, or even write as the game happens to make the report even more detailed. • • Another potential issue could be if I did not have internet access to use the usual source I would to write an article, which is making a document on Google drive. This could happen if there were either connection problems with the WiFi which are out my control such as it being down in the whole area or if I was somewhere where I am unable to access my laptop or my laptop suddenly broke. A solution to this is using the notes section on my phone and try writing it on there so it is ready to be uploaded as soon as I have access again as I can copy and paste the text and then email it over to myself. Another issue that could occur is if I start to fatigue which could effect the quality of the writing and make it appear less professional and not to the same standard as other areas of the article. A solution to this would be to make sure I get enough sleep and make sure I am fully rested. Alternatively, if I have been working on the article for too long and fatigue is a result of that, I would ensure that the likeliness of this happening is reduced by setting a schedule to have regular breaks.
  • 10. Theoretical Problems- Website • When creating my website I could face some unforeseen problems which are unavoidable. An example of this could be that the WiFi connection could go down in an area, meaning I can’t create the website when I intend to and I am delayed. One of the ways of avoiding this is that I could go to a local library and use the internet there, or visit someone else and use their WiFi. This could also become a similar problem if the resources at college became unavailable, for example if the college WiFi systems became unavailable due to maintenance it would delay me, in this situation I would follow the same situation as visiting somewhere with access to internet. As i plan to create the majority of my work at college, I could face a problem if suddenly my way of transport to college became unavailable, this could happen if weather effected the college coach for example or even in a non weather related situation, the coach broke down, this would mean I would not be able to get into college and the resources I would be using would not be as good as the ones at college. An alternative solution to this would be to use a public bus and get into college that way, or get a lift with a friend. Another possibility could be to try do the work from home. • A potential problem could also be that the website domain that I use (WordPress) could go down and the server would be unavailable for me or for people trying to view the website. This would effect me negatively as it means firstly it could put people off from wanting to view the website in the future, and also it would effect me as it would mean I can’t update the website and it could fall behind. A possible solution to this could be to either politely inform people through the website’s social media, and let them know of a reasonable time frame in which it should be back up, or I could instead post the article links in a different location and promote that on the social media page.
  • 12. Experiment analysis • These experiments were for my logo/ any graphics I need to create for my FMP, which could be used across all my products and then also social media pages which I create as part of my product. I first started with looking at a photoshop tutorial on how to make a sports logo design, I followed this to an extent but after a while and id grasped where it was going I made my own adjustments with my own skills. This tutorial did benefit me and I think will make a positive difference for me as I used something I had not used before. The skill I used and was something I had not previously used was using the anchor point tool, this allowed me to extend and change shapes and make things myself which previously I would have just had to find from images and edit myself. I will probably use this skill in my actual product as I need and want that to be as originally made as I possibly can. Although this was a positive part of my work, I was not at all satisfied with any of the experiments I made. The first reason for this is because it straight away to me just doesn't look aesthetically pleasing and also does not look professional or like it took much technically. One of the areas of this I struggled with the most was trying to get colours that had a real creative meaning behind them but also looked aesthetically pleasing. I also did not want to try copy something too much. This concerns me the most as it means that I may not be able to make my production as good as I would like, however I will try my best in my own time to get more ideas and practice more with learning new photoshop tehcniques.
  • 13. Experiment article Jurgen Klopp’s title challenging reds visit bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday. Liverpool currently sit in second, only behind on Goal Difference, with a game in hand against leaders Manchester City. In recent years Liverpool have often struggled against their North West rivals, particularly at Old Trafford in the league. The Red’s last league win at Old Trafford came in their emphatic 3-0 victory back in March 2014. To find another Liverpool win away at United, you would have to cast your mind back all the way to 2009, in which Liverpool travelled home with all three points following an iconic 4-1 thrashing. For anyone superstitious, you can reach the conclusion that in Liverpool’s last two serious title challenges, they won at Old Trafford, coupled with the fact both victories occurred within five years of each other. 2009...2014...2019? Back to the present, Liverpool returned to action after a short warm weather training camp in Marbella, while in that time Manchester United have played twice, suffering defeat against PSG, while bouncing back with a 2-0 victory against an embarrassing Chelsea side. The Reds last league outing ended in an impressive 3-0-win vs Bournemouth. Not only was this a positive result, but the performance was particularly encouraging. However, they fell to a frustrating draw against German champions, Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. Since Ole Gunnar Solskjær took charge at United, they have won more points than any other side, and have proved that on their day, they can beat anyone with their quick counter-attacking play. Although they have picked up the important points, statistics hint at an element of luck being a factor in these results. They have out-performed their xG, while conceding less than their xGA. If Liverpool’s front three are firing at all cylinders, then it’s unlikely United will be able to maintain getting away with conceding so many chances and not being punished. Last time the sides met, a double from the substitute Shaqiri gave Klopp’s side a well-deserved 3-1 win. However, this affair will be completely different with a new manager in place at the Old Trafford dugout, and their team selection and tactics will be completely changed. Many United fans are looking ahead to the fixture with high expectations due to the turnaround in management and certain players performances and attitude, however, not having Mourinho in charge is something the Liverpool fans will also be positive about. The key team news ahead of Sundays clash is that Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are out, which are sure to be a huge miss for United, with Lingard having scored in front of the Kop last time, and Martial been one of United’s key players all season. Dejan Lovren is still in contention to be fully fit for the game, and his availability will probably be revealed at the last minute. Solskjær is likely to play a much more open game than any Mourinho side ever has done, much to the pleasure of Liverpool fans who have watched countless draws or narrow losses to Mourinho teams. Liverpool benefit the most when teams come at them and don’t sit back all game, so this is surely going to be an exciting fixture which could go either way. My predicted Liverpool XI for the game is; Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane.
  • 14. • Experiment article analysis 1. I think doing this experiment article has helped me a lot, firstly this type of article which was a match preview is the kind of article I will be writing when I create my own, so this was a good experience to get used to as I’d never written a preview before. One of the areas I actually enjoyed of this was writing about something I genuinely have a passion in, this made it much easier to focus, as it is something I already have a good knowledge on also, it meant that I knew I was writing in the right type of way and the content I was discussing was accurate. While writing the article I looked at an existing preview for a recent game, which was on “LfcTransferRoom”. Although the content differed a lot, as it is about a different game etc, I tried to format it in a similar way as I was unsure on how to format a preview. This benefitted me to a large extent as it gave me a rough guideline to follow, allowing me to structure the article so it did not look all over the place. Another think I liked about the preview writing is that it has an element of being fairly opinion based, by using facts to suggest what I as the writer think could happen, this could be a positive thing in the future as it means that the audience is more likely to engage with it as an opinion piece, which could influence future people into looking at the article or wanting to look at future articles. Another aspect of this experiment which will benefit me was that in order to back up the stats I used to make a point, I found a source known as “WhoScored.com”. Firstly this is a positive thing as it is a source I did not previously know existed, so now it is somewhere I can use in the future. It is also a good thing because it gives my points more credibility as it is actual evidence of a source backing up the stats I use.
  • 15. Tackles 4, created 1 chance • Talk about the future leg coming up - Fortuna Dusseldorf and Gladbach both scored 3 there • Hopes for CL/PL • Previewing Utd game
  • 17. Podcast experiment FMP • As I mentioned already I had struggled with the post production side of my podcast. However since then I have done some more work on it, although I am still quite unsatisfied with my progress. I finally managed to access premier pro, however as I had decided against using the video footage and instead just using the audio that was recorded on the audio recorders, as i realised that would be better for my end product as i would be more confident and it would have a positive effect on the actual production I make as it would mean my presenting skills were better due to my confidence. After Premier Pro did not work, I tried using Adobe Audition, however I had never used it before and I also did not understand the tutorials. I only wanted to edit it on a basic level as that’s all that was necessary and also to get to grips with the editing software. I eventually used a software called Audacity, I didn’t know really how to use it however I eventually realised how to cut clips and that is all I really needed to do. I quite liked the simplicity of “Audacity” so I will probably use that when it comes to the post production of the end product. I have not yet created a jingle as an experiment and I will not have time really to experiment with a jingle, although I did not create one I did briefly use the GarageBand application and play around with some settings and gain some familiarity with it. Since trying to upload this experiment, for whatever reason I can not access the edited podcast, therefore I am going to have to just upload the raw footage of the unedited audio of the podcast onto SoundCloud as it wont let me on YouTube without any video footage alongside it. When I tried to access the edited version on Audacity it gave me an error message. I am glad I have done an experiment as quite a lot has gone wrong and I have learned a lot about creating a podcast so hopefully it should run slightly smoother when it comes to creating actual podcasts. However I am still frustrated at how I can not show an edited version of my podcast and this also means I did not get a lot of time to experiment with the post production side of creating a podcast. Although I struggled with using Adobe Audition, I am going to try again in the future to get to grips with it because it is compatible with the mac and I can use it on multiple devices then.
  • 19. Website experiment FMP For this experiment I used wix and an already set template. I chose to use wix because it is something I have used previously, however when I have used it in the past I was not very happy with it for the reasons that firstly, I find it quite hard to use and also the fact it is harder to develop technically. One of the few things I do like about using wix though, is that it already sets up an aesthetically pleasing design in the background. Despite this I mainly do not like using wix, another reason for this is how they use quite unrelated iamges on thepre set template, also this would not work for my actual product as I would prefer to use images that are either my own or that I have had an impact on. As I did not really think this experiment was that good, when it comes to creating my actual product, I am going to use an alternative domain. I am strongly considering using WordPress, however I have not previously used that before so that could be a disadvantage using something I have never used before for my actual product. I think when I use WordPress, one of the promising things about that is that the design etc is much more customisable to my own taste and I can try give it more of a personal influence, which can help portray things easier and demonstrate the use of a creative meaning behind my choices. I do not think this experiment has helped me much at all, but that is probably my own fault. I think the first issue is because I used a different website creator to which I plan on actually using, this will effect me as it means I did not take my chance to gain more familiarity with WordPress, this could lead to me trying to learn it as I use it in my production, which could be quite time consuming, meaning I don’t complete my work in time and I struggle to stay inline with my schedule.
