Abstracts
• A Connecting rod is used to transfer reciprocating motion of piston
into rotary motion of crankshaft. This whole process is done by
cylinder, piston, crankshaft and connecting rod. It has two ends -
Small End and Big End. The small end is connected to piston with
piston pin and the big end is hold by crankshaft through crankpin. The
small end may have a solid or split eye but the big end is always split.
The split shoulder end is assembled with a cap by clamping bolt.
Construction
• It consist of following parts,
1. Shank
2. Lower and upper bearing
3. Bearing cap
4. Bolt
5. Nut

Design in
Pressure analysis in
• Firstly we kept
the lower hole
as a fixed part
then we apply
20Mpa
pressure in
the front end
then simulate
in ANSYS
Results

Conclusion
• Under 20 Mpa pressure the upper end of the connecting rod is
getting slightly deformed and we can see red mark but the stress
isn't exceeding the yield value , hence the design is safe.
