Schedule The class schedule is online in the AET Zone Two class sessions for each topic, choose to attend one (i.e. attend either June 1 or 3) Five total online meetings (including tonight), finishing the week of July 25 Presentations on July 6/8 and the week of July 25
Components Discussion and activities (in groups of 3-5) Readings on telecom technology issues (Internet safety & online identity) Discussions in the forums and in class As a group: read, discuss, and post major ideas from one book related to Telecommunication Participate in the completion of two projects 1. Vision of a 21st Century Educated Person - Cross-Program Activity 2. Teaching with Telecommunications options (project #1 groups will be assigned, #2 groups are self-chosen and can be the same or different than your reading groups)
Readings & Discussions Issues for reading discussions listed on the 2 nd  floor of class building in the Zone The following dates are in-class discussions: June 8/10 - online safety June 22/24 - online identity Choose two group members to lead/organize your groups’ discussion for each issue.
Project 1: Vision of a 21st Century Educated Person - Cross-Program Activity This activity will begin June 14 and end the week of June 28. You will be assigned to a group made up of instructional technology peers, curriculum specialists, library science professionals, and school administrators. Your groups will be made available to you the week of June 7. Your group will be responsible for collaborating to develop a vision of a 21st century educated person. Each group must address the role of telecommunications in the life of a 21st century educated person – this is a primary part of your "expert role" within your group. You may wish to address this within the framework of education, with networking technology issues in schools – needs, access, safety, etc.
Project 2: Teaching with Telecommunications Options Choose either option 1 or 2 (work in groups) Develop and use (if possible) learning activities that employ a telecom technology to help students learn some content or skill. Include a summary of the results of your project. Develop a distance education course (web-based, video conference, or a combination of web, video, and face-to-face) that incorporates the best of what we know about distance education. Include a summary of the results.
Presentation Schedule Project 1: Vision of a 21st Century Educated Person Cross-Program Activity July 6/8 – discussion of visions and the activity Place a presentation file online on/before July 2 Project 2: Teaching with Telecommunications Options As an asynchronous “poster session”, where you will view (and comment on) other groups’ presentations during the week of July 25 th Upload (or place online) a file on/before July 23 See example of last year’s class posters in the Commons area of the AET Zone
Book Related to Telecommunications In your reading/discussion groups: read, discuss, and post major ideas from one book related to Telecommunications (see list of suggested titles in the AET Zone) Post your ideas in the Discussion Forum – each member of your group should participate
This Evening Introduce yourself on the class Discussion Board ( http://forums.rcoe.appstate.edu ) - create an account if you have never used the system Begin to form discussion groups, and view articles on Internet safety (find more on your own this week!) Explore the Network Basics building in this course area in the AET Zone View the video “NetBasics” in the lobby of the Network Basics building
