Main Structure Of a Passive Sentence.
Check, Whether a sentence is active or passive
• Check, Whether a sentence is active or passive-I
• Step 1: Find the main verb and identify whether it is past
participle or not.
• Step 2: look just before the main verb and locate any form of be
present there? 
• Check, Whether a sentence is active or passive-II
• Step 1: Find the subject.
Step 2: Did the subject perform the verb? 
Check, Whether following sentence are active or passive
• In the last few years, several new houses were built.
• Were(be) +built (V3) ----- Passive Voice
• The author has written a special edition for children.
• has +written (V3) ----- Active Voice .
• He expected to be offered the job.
• be +offered (V3) ----- Passive Voice
• The scientist will have invented something new next year.
• have +invented (V3) ----- Active Voice.
• She was shown the easier way to do it.
• Be(was) +shown (V3) ----- Passive Voice
Rules for changing Active Voice
into Passive Voice:
• Identify the subject, the verb and the object: SVO.
• Change the object into subject.
• Put the suitable helping verb or auxiliary verb.
• Change the verb into past participle of the verb.
• Add the preposition "by"
• Change the subject into object.
Indefinite or Simple Tense
Present S is/am/are (not) V(3) by agent
Past S was/were (not) V(3) by agent
Future S shall/will (not) be V(3) by agent
Present Is/Am/Are s V(3) by agent?
Past Was/Were s V(3) by agent?
Future Shall/Will s be V(3) by agent?
Indefinite or Simple Tense
• The boy hits the ball. 
• STEP-1:Remove subject: The boy
• STEP-2: Identify the object and bring it into the front of the
sentence. The Ball
• STEP-3: Place suitable form of the verb to be with the subject of
passive sentence. The Ball is
• STEP-4: Convert the main verb into 3rd
form of the verb and keep
it at its actual position or place it after verb to be:
The ball is hit
• STEP-5: Place the preposition by along with agent at the end of
the sentence . The ball is hit by the boy.
Convert the following sentences into passive voice
• Muslims celebrate Eid twice a year.
• Harry ate fish yesterday.
• The team will celebrate their victory tomorrow.
• Eid is celebrated by Muslims twice a year.
• Fish was eaten by Harry yesterday.
• Their victory will be celebrated by team
tomorrow.
Convert the following sentences into passive voice
• Do they take tea daily?
• He did not receive invitation.
• Will you not cheat him?
• Does she not cook Chinese rice?
• Did police not chase him?
• He will not show his efficiency in exams.
Convert the following sentences into passive voice
• Do they take tea daily?
• Is tea taken (by them) daily?
• He did not receive invitation.
• Invitation was not received (by him).
• Will you not cheat him?
• Will he not be cheated (by you)?
• Does she not cook Chinese rice?
• Are Chinese rice not cooked (by her)?
• Did police not chase him?

• He will not show his efficiency in exams.

Continuous Tense
Present S Is/Am/Are (not) being V(3) by agent
