This document summarizes research from several studies on second language acquisition. One study examines how Turkish-English bilingual children acquire pronominal subjects in Turkish compared to Turkish monolingual children. Another looks at how Japanese language learners of varying proficiency derive word meanings from context. A third analyzes how Korean speakers' acquisition of the English double object construction is initially influenced by their first language but then recovers through attention to semantic properties. The conclusion is that transfer effects can be seen at internal and external language interfaces, but recovery from negative transfer is possible when semantics are considered.
