Pre-production:
This involves reading and rehearsing the script getting to know your character
and getting to know the casts while practising and practising their lines, witch
was written by Neil Marshall the director of this film. Story boarding where the
director and the producer sit down to discus the film and place sections of the
scenes carefully in there right place this takes a lot of time because the more time
is put in the more informed you are about what you want to do. Casting is part of
this section where they look for actors via auditions, girls who would fill/suit the
characters of the story. They also do scouting for a location (places to do some
filming): interior the set and exterior, the exterior was the forest; the interior is
the cave as it was man made moulded clay.
Production:
This is the filming process and here we see the director (Neil Marshall) do
something clever to get realistic emotions out of the characters, as he gets the
crawlers and the six actresses to rehearse in a different space and when they’re
brought together during the filming we get a genuine reaction out of the
characters. We start acting and positioning the camera to get the best out of a
scene. There’s a part where Sarah is stuck in a cave and they place the camera at
an angle where we can see her escape before the rocks tumble onto her. Stunts
are being perfected at this stage to make them more energetic and fun to view
while keeping the element of safety intact. This is the time when Prosthetic make
up is made for the crawlers, the broken leg and ripped throat with fake blood,
which is used in all the gory scenes to frighten the audience. We Start use of
green screen for the set to make the cave look more realistic.
Post-production:
Here its mostly Editing which takes three times as longer then filming, this is
because its done section by section. Filtering unwanted shots and adding the
necessary ones and adding colour grade to add emotion. Example the scene
when Juno sparks a red flair this indicates us as the readers as what their
feelings. Music and sound effect is also edited here to give more of a climax to
the film in general. The sound effects are used mostly in the fighting scenes so we
feel the tension in the action. The music is sometimes composed directly as the
filming is taking place in the CGI moments. CGI (computer generated images) is
key in this part as its used 3 times in the first part of the film: the raft course the
metal poles that go through Pauls head and the blood that comes out of Pauls
head while in the car.
