Guidelines
Your app needs to work.
You can present static screen concepts, but they will not be judged for prizes.
Winning apps that function as described will be selected at the sole discretion of
our judges and weighted heavily based on the following 3 criteria:
• Ability to clearly articulate what your app does
• Originality of the idea/concept
• Technically creative and/or challenging implementation

Housekeeping Items
• The Batchery will be open OVER NIGHT! There will be someone here from The
Batchery the whole time.
• There are two showers available between the restrooms. You will need your
own amenities (if you’re desperate, there’s a CVS on the corner).
• Please be respectful of this space; we are using people’s offices for our
hackathon. If a space is roped-off or covered, please do not disturb.
• It is unlikely your mother is here and if she is, she doesn’t want to spend the
weekend cleaning up after you. Please throw away or recycle your trash so we
can keep our space looking nice.
• Instructions for registering your team to present will be available tomorrow
morning. Please register your team by 4pm on Saturday.
• WiFi Password: batchery_temp

Editor's Notes

  • #7: Meant to be a fun event, not meant to be an event where people steal each other’s ideas.
  • #8: Pitch, how clear is it? Do we have any idea what you built and why you built it? Just make sure that we can understand you when you talk, which includes speaking up! Originality, we don’t expect your idea to be the wheel or so original that no one has though of before. Most awesome ideas today are iterations of an idea that already existed. Wikipedia, just an encyclopedia and make it digital and crowd-sourced. They took an idea that already existed in market and refined it and made it better. We’re looking that you know what you did to improve the idea and that you did it in a creative way. This might be that you took a native app and moved it cross-platform or that you created an app that is very difficult to do natively. We want to reward you for doing something innovative or challenging. Don’t throw caution to the wind, be careful with the scope of your app and the time you have, but we do want to reward you for coding something awesome.
  • #9: All coding must be performed during the hack. If you are using a framework or something you built before the hack, you have to tell us so that we can exclude it from judging.
  • #10: Max 3 minutes Make sure you go to the demo! Get to the demo! If you have slides, which I do not recommend, have no more than 2. When I say no more than 2, that does not cram a novel onto one slide. A, it looks ugly and B, no one will be able to read it anyway! As you are presenting please make sure you are explaining how your app works and was built, which goes back to making sure your are giving a good presentation.
  • #11: Max 3 minutes Make sure you go to the demo! Get to the demo! If you have slides, which I do not recommend, have no more than 2. • #12: Wireframe everything, it’s very important. Make sure your are thinking things through so you are sharing the same idea not that you are all building different versions of the same idea.
  • #14: Found at the AT&T table. Loaner hardware is available for collateral
  • #15: Link to register will be available tomorrow. That’s to protect you and make sure you aren’t splitting a prize with someone who dropped out and to make sure that we are getting the actual list of teams that will be here to present.
