What have you learned from your audience feedback? The brief of this project was to create a teaser trailer for a horror movie as well as a promotional poster for it and the cover of a film magazine promoting it’s release.
What have you learned from your audience feedback? After I created my teaser trailer, I had to make sure that it appealed to the target audience. So using Microsoft word I developed a questionnaire so I can show people the trailer and gain responses from them. Even though there not the direct target audience , it was interesting and helpful to get a wider range of peoples view of the teaser trailer. The feedback that I had received was both expected and unexpected. From the data collected it allowed me to analyse their thoughts of the trailer and how it effects my views on my production.
          1) Please state your age 2) Please state your gender3) How does the first set of music set the scene? How does it fit in with the rest of the trailer? 4) How effective is the text between shots? Do they need to be held for longer or shorter? Is/ how is it necessary for this teaser trailer?5) What do the shots of the apples signify to you? What have you learned from your audience feedback?6) Even though it is shot in daylight. How well does it convey the genre of horror? Please state key aspects 7) How does the change in music benefit the trailer?8) How well is the main character as a convincing terrified victim?9) Is the shot of the cutting of the hand convincing enough and how would you describe it. What does it add or take away from the trailer?10) What do you feel from the shots of the people in white masks? What impression do they give you?How do they live up to the conventions of a horror trailer? Please give an example of specific shots that stand out in the teaser trailer in terms of conveying a horror teaser trailer. Please state what could be improved or changed in this trailer. Here is a copy layout of the questionnaire used. (not actual layout due to amount of space)
Question 1: Please State Your Age From the people that answered the questionnaire there are more young people that are still in their teens, even though this was not a precise questionnaire in terms of reliability and validity, it does help my research for target audience and it acts as a first run so if I were to do the questionnaire again I know what not to do and how I can make the practice more better. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Question 2: Please Sate Your Gender Once again this is not reliable data, if I want to find out who my film will appeal to more I would have to make the amount of females and males even. However, from this I would be able to analyse the individual from an interpretive approach. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Question 3: How does the first set of music set the scene ? &How does it fit in with the trailer? All of the people that answered my questionnaire said that they felt that the opening music sets the scene by creating the mood of uncertainty. An example of what one said is that they thought ‘the music fits well in the opening seen and for the whole trailer because it gives a feel of that everything at first is quite mysterious but mellow but it also rises suspicion, which relates to the trailer as it is the feature before everything goes bad’What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Question 4: How effective is the text between shots? & Is/How is it necessary for the teaser trailerAgain, everyone who answered the questionnaire said that the text between shots was very effective in its use. One person said it was necessary for the teaser trailer as ‘it gives us an outline for the film and it sets the trailer it place of what it is about’. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Question 5: What do the shots of the apples signify to you? Most of the people that answered the questionnaire said that the bloodied apples signified death or that something bad was going to happen to the girl. One even referred to the fact that it signifies the fairy tale snow white gone wrong. Another said that it signifies pain within good. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Question 6:Even though it is shot in daylight. How well does it convey the genre of horror? Please state key aspects Some of the people said that to convey the genre of horror the trailer should have been shot at night but they also said that the trailer still works well as a whole in terms of it being a horror genre. They also referred to the fact the music helps the trailer convey the genre of horror. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Question 9: Is the shot of the cutting of the hand convincing enough and how would you describe it. What does it add or take away from the trailer?( not actual picture from footage of my teaser trailer) One response from this trailer was that ‘ the effect looks convincing but is not 100% realistic’. Someone else described it as ‘quite gruesome’. Another person said that it would of made the trailer better if they actually saw the hand being cut and the blood coming out rather then the shot of the masked hooded person carrying on after the cut was made. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
What have you learned from your audience feedback?Question 10.3: Please give an example of specific shots that stand out in the teaser trailer in terms of conveying a horror teaser trailer.Nearly every single one, who answered the questionnaire, stated that the one shot that stood out the most for them was the shot of one of the masked people in the tree. They added to this that ‘it gave a creepy effect to the trailer as it looked like it was looking down on us’.Question 10.4:Please state what could be improved or changed in this trailer. An example of an answer to this question is that ‘there should be more blood within the trailer’.
