The GRE revised general test is administered via computer and takes approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete. It consists of 6 sections: 1) analytical writing, 2) two verbal reasoning sections, 3) two quantitative reasoning sections, 4) an unscored section, and 5) an optional research section. The analytical writing, verbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning sections each contain around 20 multiple-choice questions and must be completed in a set time period. Test takers can skip questions and return to them later within each section. A basic on-screen calculator is provided for the quantitative reasoning sections.
