Computer Adaptive Tests & Performance Tasks • Computer Adaptive Tests – Based on student responses, the computer program adjusts the difficulty of questions throughout the assessment • ELA – Tuesday 5/26 • Math – Tuesday 6/2 • Performance Tasks –- Measure a student’s ability to integrate knowledge and skills across multiple standards. Performance Tasks follow the classroom activity. • ELA – Wednesday 5/27 • Math – Wednesday 6/3 • CAT Classroom Activity Performance Task
- 5. Classroom Activity • The purpose of the Classroom Activity is to introduce students to the context of a performance task so they are not disadvantaged in demonstrating the skills the task intends to assess. • The teacher/TA should be able to record information— including any tables, graphics, formulas, or other information contained in the Classroom Activity materials—for students to see, such as on a chalkboard or dry-erase board. Computers, projectors, and other technology are allowed but not required for the Classroom Activity • Students may take notes during the classroom activity but they must be collected prior to them beginning and taking the performance.

- 12. Selecting the Test to Give • After logging in, select the appropriate test to give from the test selection menu.

Student Approvals • The Student Approvals table is available in the top right of the screen. • Students are able to select only one test. • As students request approval they will show up in the Approvals column. The site auto updates every minute. Select the “Refresh now” button to immediately update.

- 17. Student Approvals cont. • The students awaiting approval lists his/her name and what test they have selected. • Click on approvals and the “Approvals and Student Testing Setting window will appear.

- 19. Student Approvals Cont. • You review the students testing selections to ensure they have selected the correct test. • 3 Options: • Approve • Approve All • Deny – If they selected the wrong test
- 20. Starting the Session • After Selecting the appropriate test, Click Start Session • Take note of the Session ID, write it in a place where all students can see.
- 21. Monitoring Student Progress • Monitor student progress in the Test Session Table • Name • SSID • Opp # • What test student is taking • Test Settings • Status • Pause Test • *Grayed out = Not actively testing (Paused or Submitted)

What Students Will Need • Students will need the following information to login: • State SSID: CA followed by a hyphen and the SSID Number: • First Name: Students legal first name as spelled in the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CALPADS) • Session ID: Test Administrator Generated Session ID:
- 23. Stopping a Session & Logging Off • Stopping a session will end the session & automatically pause all students tests. • The Students will be logged off automatically. • Student tests can be resumed, test sessions cannot.
- 24. Logging Off • Users should exit or log off of the TA Interface only after stopping the test session. Regardless of when or how users log off or navigate away from the TA Interface, student data will not be lost.
- 25. Testing Rules
- 26. Basic Test Rules • Students must answer all test items on a page before going to the next page. Some pages contain multiple items. Students may need to use scroll bars to view all content on a page. • Students may mark (flag) items for review and use the Questions drop-down list to easily return to those items, provided the test has not been paused for more than 20 minutes • For tests that contain multiple segments, students may not return to a segment after it has been completed.

Performance Task • The classroom activity must occur prior to students taking the performance task. • Content from the classroom activity is not to be available ti students. • Student notes from the Classroom Activity are not to be used or accessible during the PT. • Student notes must be collected proceeding the PT and stored in a secure location until securely shredded.

Computer Adaptive Test Pause Rules • Students may pause their Computer Adaptive Test however they should raise their hand and ask you first. • If the CAT is paused for less than 20 minutes: • Student can return to any item he or she has answered within a segment • If the CAT is paused for more than 20 minutes: • Student will be returned to the last page with unanswered items/ If it has both answered and unanswered items on the page they can change any answers on that page. • Test Timeout (Inactivity) • As a security measure, students are automatically logged off after 30 minutes of test inactivity. This timeout also results in the test being paused automatically. • Given warning displayed on screen

TA Rules • TA’s cannot help students use the tools on the testing screen or determine what is the best tool to use. • TA’s cannot help students answer the questions, they can only refer a student to re-read the question to determine what it is asking for. • TA’s cannot login for students but they can assist in helping students to login or determine why they are having trouble logging in.

- 33. Student Verity's Test Information • Student Selects the Test • After the TA approves, the student must verify the test information.
- 34. • Audio Check – Student must verify they can hear the sound • If student does they click yes. • If students does not they need to exit out of secure browser adjust the volume and re-login.
- 35. Student Test Instructions • Student will be able to view test instructions, help, and starting the test
- 36. Students – Ending a Segment When students reach the end of the segment they can review all questions from the segment. Once they submit they cannot go back and review.
- 37. Students – Ending A Test • After students have completed all items on the test the “end test button” will appear in the upper bar with accompanying text. Students will need to click and verify if they would like to end the test.

Troubleshooting • Closing the Browser/Unintentional Exit • Session will remain open • Navigate back to the TA Interface • Enter Session ID In the “Session ID Prompt” • Test Session Timeout / Automatic Logoff • If you are inactive for 30 minutes you will be logged off and the current session will be paused. • You must restart a new session & All students must reenter.

Troubleshooting – Student Login • Student ID Error • Check Login Information & Watch Student Enter It • Session ID Does not Exist • Check ID Being Entered • Check You Are Using Live Site • Watch Student Enter Information • The Testing Session is Closed • Ensure the Session ID is Correct • Verify Session is Open • The student is not associated with the school. • Contact Testing Coordinator on Site
- 42. Practice Site TA • Go to CAASPP.org • Click on the blue button with the apple labeled “Test Administrator Practice & Training Site” • Login using your username & password • Select the Appropriate Test • Click Start Session
- 43. Student Site Practice • Go to CAASPP.org • Click on the green button labeled “Student Interface Practice & Training Tests.” • Keep the “Guest User” button checked • Uncheck the “Guest Session” button and enter the session ID written on the white board. • Select Sign in
