Because I got feedback and because we announced so much new things since initial Unity 5 announcement at the GDC almost 6 years at Unity – since early days has been an engineer, now the one in the field working with different markets including Russia

  • #6: Global Illumination Speaking about the tool – we figured out that it is not the tools that make games, but people, especially artists who are not necessarily technical people empower creative people, artists, designers do beautiful stuff on the video you see the physically based shader demo, a kind of thing that is ready out of the box in Unity 5 – you just use sliders to configure the looks Additionally we have improved default shading and lighting systems so they look good by default But skillful hands can still do much better =] Enlighten allows dynamically changing: Light sources. Environment lighting. Material properties (diffuse reflectivity and surface emission). Enlighten outputs the following data: Real-time lightmaps. Real-time lightprobes. Real-time cubemaps. In Unity 5 the lighting inputs: light sources, emissive materials and environment lighting can be tagged as using baked or real-time GI. The baked and real-time GI merges seamlessly. The scripting extensions needed for doors/gates are expected to arrive in 5.x. Same for destruction. Same for level streaming/precompute chunks of data These are the main features shipping in Unity 5.0: Enlighten run-time for in game real-time GI. Iterative workflow (for both real-time GI and baking). Reflection probes
  • #7: Unity 5 is the thing we put all bets on, this is a very important release. And what have been announced looks like a small part from what we’re to ship 5.0 beta and 4.6 beta 4.5.x still supported by hotfixes lots of different pieces of technology being landed onto trunk, and then surprises appear =] Oculus – a new target + new strategy PlayStation – free! All free Xbox One is free Samsung Smart TV Android TV Intel Androids Open Source – UI, testing tools then more UI – 4.6, then Unity 5 WebGL – new era! GI – Enlighten + friends Asset Bundles Multi scene editing Asset Store and Unity 5 Director

  • #9: The plan for the short term is to get on top of the bugs preventing a good experience with the current Oculus plugin and getting support for that in Unity free. This will take between one and a few weeks. Once that is done there will be time to plan the build-in support for VR in the editor. The planning will also include talking with our contacts at Valve, Sony, and others, to see if we can bring the different VR experiences together so they will be more accessible for our users.

  • #12: Contract Wars, King’s Bounty and other popular titles – webplayer 3D in the browser with no plugin Mozilla 350 million installs and counting - we’re seeing 100’s of thousands installs per day. While web evolves, we evolve too Completely removing support for NACL Completely removing support for Flash We want to make sure Unity is also the best tool to deploy to webgl. We see this as the future of deploying to the web For the now and shorter term future, WebPlayer still relevant. we use this as a cover name for html5 javascript AND webgl requires webgl ready browsers IL2CPP - is a cross-platform AOT compiler for .NET Bytecode, that cross-compiles to C++.

  • #14: Supported SCM systems: Git, SVN, Perforce Unity Cloud Build detects new content, and either creates a build with the new content, or reports errors to the dev team Users can also drill down into a specific build’s details and see the Full Build Log, Compact Build Log, Files Changed, and a Build summary
  • #15: An intelligent alerting system automatically tells developers over email or in dashboard about warnings (i.e., big drops in revenue) and potential opportunities (i.e., new players in Asia installed your game) Actionable Analytics - More than just charts and graphs, Unity Analytics will also offer tools to help target specific users to personalize the game experience. Track custom events and milestones - allows developers to track game events that they care about (ie: levels completed, items purchased, etc…) Who is eligible to try out Unity Analytics right now? Unity developers who have a mobile game with live data on iOS or Android platforms.   • #17: Lots of stuff, I’ll highlight some, then outline some, then focus on some, and then you’ll ask the rest Problem we are solving with Unity 5: how to make your game a success story Creating a game itself is something we’re considering a solved problem, but still investing in making our tools better (later on this) The success story of your game is the reason we’re switching to a kind of service model we don’t just sell a software pack, we’re trying to be your partner (if you wish us to be) You’re aware that we have an Asset Server (get stuff) we can help you debug and improve your game with premium support we can help you publish your game in Asia, look out for Allen Foo and Eric Hwang tomorrow we have an Everyplay tool to generate organic traffic for you, also buy traffic with Game Ads – next session is more about it Playnomix tool – thing we’ve announced recently is a way for you to understand user behavior to fix retention and balance we also have a bunch of unannounced initiatives, so look out for our Unite conference in Seattle for some hot thing
  • #18: Take a step back to see the full picture Unity is a full suite, full solution for your game title to be a success story Unity is not only the editor and multiplatform runtime, but a solution, a service Most things we’re talking about today in this and next sessions is what is immediately available with Unity 5 Editor and services are to improve within that long Unity 5.x period, we’re planning on 5.1 and 5.2 already Now the engine itself obviously remains in the focus This is all for you: The Engine for developing and deploying 2D and 3D interactive content. The Asset Store: online marketplace for Unity developers to sell and buy or download for free ready-made assets and production tools. Currently over 10,000 products on the shelves Unity Services: upcoming tools integrated into the engine for marketing, analytics and player retention, as well as cloud-hosted build testing and deployment The Community: user forums, local user groups, Unity’s own annual developer conference, Unite.
