“Local Voices mean Local Choices”
community-driven website.
Mission
 Park View “Local Voices mean Local Choices” community-driven website is striving to
promote an ‘information-in-one-place’ e-platform to search, track & connect residents to
the community & voluntary sector across North Tyneside.
 Promote social media training for residents in the form of community reporting via an
Information Ranger learning programme.
 The opportunity to register as a volunteer ‘Information Buddy’ & provide peer-support to
others with the aim of enabling more people to contribute to borough-wide voluntary &
community sector events and activities.
 Make available to those unemployed or seeking help with on-line Universal Benefit
applications access to PC’s, peer-support, job searching and CV writing.
 Increase participation by disabled people in accessing on-line support and services in
order to increase their involvement in voluntary and community sector matters.
The Idea
 Park View’s “Local Voices mean Local
Choices” community-driven website uses
Facebook functions, while adopting the
philosophy of a ‘community message-board’
thereby acting as a catalyst for enabling the
voluntary sector and residents of North
Tyneside to share a virtual information
space.
How it works
The park view project is split into five sections
Groups and Organisations: On selecting a group/organisation you can select updates, see
how many members have joined, check what events you have posted and select ‘topics’ to be
discussed.
Members: By selecting members, you can post a message, look at their profile, who are
their ‘friends’, how many groups they are linked with & upload stories, features & articles.
Events: You can create or view current, future or past events; look at a list of your personal events
and & browse public events posted by other organisations or individuals.
Fundraising: Add your fund raising link with PayPal; if you are a project (Not a
registered charity) you can insert your local donations ‘collection box’; and identify your
fund raisers and keep track of all your ‘causes’.
Directory: Search by category such as subject area (Under construction).
Picture Gallery and a section for uploading newsletters (Under development).
Registering
There are three ways an organisation or individual
can register quickly and easily:
Existing Facebook users
Existing Twitter users
Register manually.
How does it benefit me?
Sharing:
Local News
Local Views
Local concerns about your community
Benefit: Organisation
 Track your events (How many attends/funds raised)
 Networking with organisations and individuals
 Make new connections
 Raising awareness
 Easily manageable web presence
 Zero cost
 Respond to concerns and questions raised by local communities.
 Requires no changes in how you use your current customised social
media pathways or alterations to your communication strategy.
Benefit: Residents of North Tyneside:
 Ability to follow news and updates from involved organisations or groups.
 Finding out about new or similar interest-based events or organisations.
 A quick and easy way to get in touch with an organisation or another individual.
 Access to a directory that you build.
 Easy no-hassle integration with existing social media.
 Become a “Streetwise” Community Reporter (you don’t have to attend our office, you can
manage your learning from the comfort of your own home).
 Ability to create your own project, event or fundraising page.
 Ability to network with other users and friends from existing social media.
 Upload reports, articles, features and stories about what is happening in your community.
 Volunteering as an Information Buddy (Peer-supporting community reporter trainees)
