What is Animation?
Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of images
to create an illusion of movement. The most common
method of presenting animation is as a motion picture
or video program. In simpler word; animation means
giving life to our imagination.
Key Elements of Animation
Motion
Motion is the foundation of animation. It is
the process of creating movement and
bringing objects to life.
Timing
Timing is crucial in animation. It
determines the speed and rhythm of the
movement, creating a sense of realism
and impact.
Poses
Poses help to convey the emotion and
intention of characters or objects in
animation. They play a key role in
storytelling.
Spacing
Spacing refers to the even distribution of
movement between keyframes. It helps to
create smooth and natural-looking
animations.
Different Types of Animation
2D Animation
2D animation involves
creating movement in a two-
dimensional environment. It
is often associated with
traditional hand-drawn
animation.
3D Animation
3D animation uses digital
models and environments to
create realistic motion. It is
widely used in movies, video
games, and visual effects.
Stop Motion Animation
Stop motion animation
involves capturing individual
frames of physical objects or
figures and combining them
to create movement.
History of Animation
1 Early Devices
The zoetrope and the flip book were early devices that demonstrated the principle
of animation in the 19th century.
2 Traditional Animation
The Walt Disney Studio revolutionized animation with the release of Snow White
and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.
3 Computer Animation
Computer-generated imagery (CGI) became popular in the 1990s, with films like
Toy Story showcasing the potential of digital animation.
Importance of Animation in
Various Industries
1 Entertainment
Animation is a cornerstone of the
entertainment industry, creating
memorable characters and immersive
worlds in movies, TV shows, and
video games.
2 Advertising
Animation is used in advertising to
grab attention, convey information,
and create an emotional connection
with the audience.
3 Educational
Animation is a powerful tool for
education, making complex concepts
more accessible and engaging for
learners of all ages.
4 Medical
Animation is utilized in medical fields
to visualize processes, explain
procedures, and enhance patient
understanding.
Animation Techniques and Tools
Traditional Animation
1. Drawing and Inking
2. Coloring and Painting
3. Background Creation
4. Frame-by-Frame Animation
