The Peppol initiative aims to improve public procurement processes in the EU, which currently face significant hurdles due to a lack of common electronic data exchange standards. By 2010, all public administrations are expected to conduct 100% of their procurement electronically, with efforts focused on aligning national solutions with European standards. A budget of €20 million has been proposed for pilot projects to enhance interoperability, and governments and software companies are urged to adapt their processes and systems to participate actively in this transformation.
