PEPPOL is an EU-funded eProcurement project that allows companies from any EU member state to participate in tenders across the EU, potentially leading to over €50 billion in annual savings. It aims to eliminate barriers in public procurement by facilitating electronic document exchange between businesses and government agencies. Currently in a testing phase with participation from 12 member states including Ireland, PEPPOL utilizes open standards and interoperability specifications.

- 2. What is PEPPOL? • Is an EU initiated and funded project • Is an eProcurement project that will enable any company in any EU member state to respond to any tender across the EU • Simply put: any Irish or EU company will be able to tender for government projects in any EU member state
- 3. Why PEPPOL? • Less than 5% of total procurement budgets are awarded electronically • Only 1.6% of contracts are supplied by an entity in another Member State • Simply put: It is estimated that if eProcurement is adopted by all European contracting authorities, annual savings could exceed €50B
- 4. How will PEPPOL work? • PEPPOL will re-move the technical and procedural barriers to public procurement by enabling European businesses to deal electronically with any public buyers in their procurement processes • Simply put: PEPPOL is a document exchange service enabling eDelivery of business documents between government agencies and private companies

Is PEPPOL live? • PEPPOL currently in test phase in 12 EU member states. • Ireland is an active participant. • Celtrino is a key member of the Irish PEPPOL project • Celtrino’s public sector project partner is the Health Service Executive (HSE) • Other participating countries - Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the United Kingdom
- 6. PEPPOL Technical Stuff • PEPPOL will be deployed across the EU via open standards. • The principle standards PEPPOL uses are known as BusDox and Business Interoperability Interfaces (BII) as well as the PEPPOL Business Interoperability Specifications (BIS).
