Framing and Form
Find images that deal primarily with the issue of
formal structure, or how a photograph is “put
                   together.”
Think about your subject matter. What will you
      photograph? What interests you?
RULE OF THIRDS
•
The rule of thirds helps you create more
    interesting compositions.

•
Imagine two horizontal and two vertical
lines equally dividing your shot, then place
subjects on the lines or where they
    intersect with each other.

•
Place your horizon on the top or bottom
line to add emphasis to the ground or to
    the sky respectively.

Assignment 1: Rule of Thirds
In learning how to use the rule of thirds the most
important questions to be asking of yourself are:

What are the points of interest in this shot?

Where am I intentionally placing them?
For Next Class:

Assignment:
• Photograph 50 images that represent a good sense of
composition/rule of thirds.

• All photographs MUST be taken over the next five days. Do not
use old photos that you have previously taken and do not use
photos from the Internet. All photos must be current and taken by
you.

• Subject matter: whatever you choose – think about your composition.
Don’t take the photo to “take the photo” You will be graded on effort,
composition, subject matter and use of photoshop tools.

Bring to class: All images on your camera + the cords to download
them to the computer or bring all images on a jump drive to download to
computer.
