This paper investigates the effectiveness of heterogeneous networks (hetnets) composed of macro and pico cells to enhance Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-A) systems, employing three scheduling algorithms: Proportional Fair (PF), Maximum-Largest Weighted Delay First (MLWDF), and Exponential/Proportional Fair (Exp/PF). Simulations demonstrate that integrating pico cells significantly improves system performance, achieving higher throughput, reduced packet loss ratios, and decreased delays. The study indicates that this approach is cost-effective for increasing throughput and coverage while managing latency in LTE networks.
