Warm Up What is your progress on your science fair experiment? Are you updating your logbook every time you work on your project? Copy down today’s date and EQ in your logbook. Copy down your homework in your agenda. Completed science fair projects are due Tuesday, January 26.
Now – Let’s Evaluate With your group, take a look at the two project display board photographs provided. Answer these questions: What was your initial reaction to the way it looked? Did they include all the required information? If not, what did they miss? Did they include something you had not thought about including? What’s the best thing about the board? What’s the worst thing about the board? If you could change anything to make the board better, what would it be?
What You Need on Your Board A tri-fold display board i.e. cardboard or foam board Title of Project and Your Name Question Hypothesis Variables Procedure Materials Data Analysis Conclusions Acknowledgements and Bibliography
Tips Lay out your board like a newspaper – top to bottom and then left to right Use a font size of at least 16 points for the text on your display board (not titles – they should be bigger) Title should be large and easy to read from across the room Use photos, diagrams, charts and graphs on your board Do not include any equipment with your board. You need just your board, logbook, and paperwork for the science fair. Use heavy paper or cardstock to prevent wrinkling. Matte your papers on construction paper or colored paper to make them stand out. Tips taken from: http://www.sciencebuddies.org/mentoring/project_display_board.shtml
Now It’s Your Turn Create a rough draft of your display board. Think about how you will lay it out and what you will put where. Think about color, title placement, photograph placement, chart placement, etc. Use your paper to sketch out your ideas. This is a work in progress, so don’t worry if your final product turns out differently!
