New education policy 2020 • New education policy 2020 approved by the Union cabinet of India on 29 July 2020, outlines the vision of India’s new education system. • The new policy replaces the previous National policy on education, 1986 • This policy is a comprehensive framework for elementary education to higher education • This policy aims to transform India’s education system by 2030 • The NEP 2020 enacts numerous changes in India’s education policy • It aims to increase state expenditure on education from around 4-6% as soon as policy
- 3. Major Changes and Highlights 1. Reasons behind launching NEP 2020 ▪ By 2035, 50% students should complete Higher education ▪ Reduce rote learning ▪ No hard separation of streams
- 4. School level changes Stage 01 – Foundational Stage Focus: To enhance the language of students to acquire knowledge Major Changes and Highlights

Stage 02 – Preparatory Stage Student was taught with fundamentals (such as +, -, *, %) Stage 03 – Middle stage At class 6, students life changes altogether ▪ Introduced to different subjects ▪ Vocational courses – Internships for improving practical skills ▪ Coding is Introduced Major Changes and Highlights
- 6. Stage 04 – Secondary stage Options are given to select the subject including co-curricular activities For eg – Students can take his/her subjects such as Botany + Accountancy + Dance + Debating + History Major Changes and Highlights
- 7. ▪ The language policy is a broad guideline in nature and it is up to the states, institutions and schools to decide on implementation. ▪ Should be implemented in all schools over India by 2026 ▪ Only the guidelines have been passed out from the cabinet minister. ▪ Implementations are expected to be done in Higher education, Teaching education and other changes Implementations
