SCHEDULING YOUR TIME
Managing Time
• Now that you have recorded how you spent several typical days in your life,
it is time to put this information to good use. Many students discover that a
sizable amount of each day is spent doing nothing. By planning ahead, you
could make some of this time productive.
3 CHART SYSTEM
1. Daily Schedule
2. Weekly Assignment Sheet
3. Long-Range Planner
DAILY SCHEDULE
1. On Sunday night or Monday morning jot down a list of things you know you are
going to be doing during the upcoming week. Include all scheduled activities
and responsibilities such as music lessons, sports practice, and babysitting jobs.
2. Write these activities on your Daily Schedule. Be sure to write them in the correct
day and time slots.
3. Once you have written down your activities and responsibilities for the week, you
can see what time is left for homework and study. Plan ahead and write down a
Daily Homework Time for each day of the week. Be sure to allow as much time as
you usually need to compete your assignments. If your teacher gives tests or
quizzes on Fridays, you should schedule more time for study on Thursdays.
4. Keep your Daily Schedule with you in your binder throughout the week. Each day,
you need to schedule those activities that come up that you didn’t now about in
advance. If, for example, on Monday you are assigned a book report, you knhow
that you will have to go to he library during the week to get the book. Schedule
time one day during the week to do so.
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT SHEET
1. One of the keys to getting your homework done correctly is to write all
assignments down as they are iven. Three-hole punch each week’s
assignment sheet and ut it in the front of your binder.
2. Write down each homework assignment you are given. Be sure to include
all the information you will need. Don’t rely on your memory, or friends, to
fill in the details for you later.
3. Keep your daily schedule updated as you receive new assignments. If an
unexpected test is scheduled, look ahead to make sure you allow for
enough study time.
LONG-RANGE PLANNER
The long-range planner will help you plan ahead to see what assignments are
due in the upcoming weeks or months. Use the long-range planner to write
down due dates for projects such as book reports, science projects, tests, and
term papers. Refer to this planner often so that information can be transferred
to your daily schedule as needed.
ASSIGNMENT
1. Fill in the Daily Schedule for this week. Remember to write down all
scheduled activities and responsibilities. Schedule a Daily Homework Time
for each day.
2. Begin writing down all of your homework assignments on the Weekly
Assignment Sheet. (Start with this assignment!) Be sure that you include all
the information you will need to get the assignment done correctly.
3. Do you have any tests, projects, or reports coming up? Fill in this
information on your Long-Range Planner
