IIT JAM virtual calculator
Online Virtual Calculators are the calculators which are
accessed through internet.
Virtual calculators were first introduced in the year 2016. So,
many candidates are not aware of the virtual calculator.
Candidates who have applied for the exam must be aware of
the functions of the IIT JAM Virtual Calculator.
Below are the characteristics of JAM Virtual Calculator:
• All the keys for basic operations like subtraction, addition,
multiplication, division, etc. are on the right-hand side of
the calculator.
• All the keys for scientific operations are on the left-hand
side of the calculator.
• All the functions are grouped together so that the
candidates can easily use the virtual calculator for IIT JAM.
• There is no need of the shift key in this calculator because
all the keys for inverse operations are available separately.
• Keys for hyperbolic operations are also available.
• Two display boxes are provided at the top of the virtual
calculator. The top box indicates the sequence of the keys
pressed (not the actual calculations) and is just for
reference.
• The display box below indicates the actual values entered
by the candidate.
Below are the important points that a candidate should kept
in mind:
• Calculations involves only decimals, no fractional
calculation is required.
• For matrices related questions, candidates need to solve
them manually. No separate column will be provided in
the JAM virtual calculator.
• This is a non-programmable calculator. It does not solve
any quadratic, cubic or simultaneous equations.
• Internet connections is only needed to load the calculator.
Once the calculator is loaded, there is no need for the
internet connection.
• There is a memory button in the virtual scientific
calculator also to store a value.
• Most of the values for constants will be provided to the
candidate, but if not provided, candidate must know the
value for that constant.
• You should make sure that the top display area is showing
the sequence of the keys pressed and not the formula.
• The virtual calculator can only be used by the mouse.
Keyboard will not work for the calculator.
Many candidates are not familiar with the virtual calculator. This virtual
calculator has all the functions that you will need while performing
calculations in the JAM exam.
Below are some examples to show how a virtual calculator works. You
must practice online which help you to easily use the calculator during
JAM exam:
For Basic operations:
To evaluate 50 + 45 x 3 you should enter 50, +, 45, *, 3, = in your virtual
calculator.
To evaluate 50 x 45 – 2 you should enter 50, *, 45, -, 2, = in your virtual
calculator.
To evaluate 25 x (5+5) you should enter 25, *, (, 5, +, 5,), = in your virtual
calculator.
To evaluate functions:
To evaluate 2 + log (20) x 5 you should enter 20, log, *, 5, +,
2, = in your virtual calculator.
To evaluate log (30) x 5 – 7 you should enter 30, log, *, 5, -, 7,
= in your virtual calculator.
To evaluate In (25) x 2 + 5 you should enter 25, In, *, 2, +, 5, =
in your virtual calculator.
To evaluate 5 + In (25) x 2 you should enter 25, In, *, 2, +, 5, =
in your virtual calculator.
For Trigonometric operations:
To evaluate sin (45) or cos (45) or tan (45) you should enter
45, sin or cos or tan in your virtual calculator.
To evaluate tan (45) x 5 + 2 you should enter 45, tan, *, 5, +,
2, = in your virtual calculator.
