A matrix-based character editor was developed for Scratchpads websites to allow users to easily input, manage and analyze phylogenetic character data. Scratchpads are online workspaces for sharing biodiversity data within a research community. Existing character editors like DELTA and Nexus were not well integrated with the Scratchpad framework. The new matrix editor allows characters to be directly added and coded within Scratchpads, addressing a need for phylogenetic data management and analysis within the Scratchpad environment.
