      Equivalent Fractions

 What will we learn today?
• recognising and naming equivalent
  fractions
• listing the first 8 equivalent
  fractions of a given fraction,
We have learnt about fractions in Primary 2.

It’s time for us to take it to a new level.

Let’s try to learn some new concepts!
Equivalent Fractions
Equivalent Fractions have the same value,
even though they may look different.
Look at the diagram
We can see that 1 whole is equal to 3 one-thirds.
We can see that one-third is equal to 2 one-sixths.
Looking the diagram, we can say that
Try these out!
List the next equivalent fraction of the given fraction.

               1)½= ______

               2)⅛= ______
Try these out!
List the next equivalent fraction of the given fraction.

             1)½=
                          2
                          4

             2)⅛=
                           2
                           16
This is how you do it

Change the bottom using multiply or divide,
and the same to the top must be applied
Summary

       Important

You can make equivalent fractions by
multiplying or dividing both top and bottom by
the same amount.
Summary

      Important

If we keep dividing until we can't go on any
further, then we have simplified the fraction.
Summary

                           Important

We can only multiply or divide,
never add or subtract, to get an equivalent fraction.
Try these out!
List the next two equivalent fraction of the given fraction.

                1)½=

                2)⅛=
