How did you attract/address
your audience?

What have you learnt about
technologies from the process
of constructing this product?
In order to attract an audience I had to
make sure my front page was
crammed with exciting information
that just reached out of the pages
towards the potential audience.

I used a brightly covered logo
within my masthead to make it
stand out in contrast to not
                                                only the white background but
I included a competition onto the page to most other coloured
lure fans of the mentioned band to purchase backgrounds for future issues.
the magazine in order for them to have the It is easily recognisable and is
big and bold for easy visibility
chance to win the limited edition from a distance. It had been
merchandise. placed on the left third of the
magazine cover in order to be
seen when on a magazine shelf.
On the double page spread I
displayed and highlighted two quotes
said from the band member within
the interviewer I used two powerful
statements that are very provocative
to a potential reader when noticing
them due to the extreme emotional
subject matter displayed within the
statement. By viewing this the
audience will be enticed into reading
the whole article in order to find out
the meaning behind these strong
statements.
On the contents page I have given
a brief paragraph from one of the
main articles. I have included this
as this small segment will give the
audience a taste of what is to
come further on inside the pages.
If a passer by is just skim reading
the contents page when choosing
to buy it or not they may glance at
this paragraph and decide that
they want to purchase the
magazine in order to continue and
read on. We all know how strong
human curiosity can be.

I have also highlighted the two
main articles within the magazine
in order to quickly show the
audience which two bands have
made it into the Kapoosh
headlines that week. So at a
glance the audience is aware that
there is a big story on their
favourite bands and will want to
read all about them.
From this exercise I have learnt many things about various publishing technologies.
For starters i learnt that Microsoft Publisher severely lacked room for creativity.
Everything was in a template and the fonts/colours were very bland and not a lot
could be done with the text. I personally felt as if publisher was very restricting in
how far you could go when creatively trying to make your own magazine cover, you
could not adjust fonts into more artistic creations and images could not be edited at
all using publisher. However I found comic life which was an excellent tool for creating
my magazine, it provided various exciting and creative editing choices for both text
and images. It was easy to make your own template and I feel it allowed you to
experiment more with different looks. I also learnt a lot about the use of Adobe
fireworks which proved invaluable when editing my images. It allowed me to airbrush
my pictures, duplicate areas or even change the image completely with various visual
effects and colour changes.
