This case study from Spain examined the difficulties identified in a design e-learning program that used internet, audio, and visual elements. The study found that collaborative work and knowledge creation were challenging, and that project management was complicated in the distance learning modality because tutors could not intervene directly or easily explain critiques. Tools used for project management were also not suitable for the work. The virtual learning environment was poorly organized and lacked spaces for designers to learn from peers. The authors concluded by questioning what models of e-learning are most or least effective for design education.
