i. Basic Knowledges of Motorsports
ii. Preparation of Motorsports
Trainee will able to know about:
• Basic Knowledges of Motorsport
- Definition of motorsport.
- Motorsport categories – Racing/Non Racing
- Motorsport association (MAM/AAM/FIA/FIM)
• Preparation of Motorsports
- Safety precaution & PPE for motorsports
- Basic technical and guideline in motorsports.
- Basic Preparation for competition purposes.
Defination of Motorsport
WHAT IS MOTORSPORT?
Motorsport or motorsports is the group
of competitive events which primarily
involve the use of motorized vehicles,
whether for racing or non-racing
competition.
MOTORSPORT CATEGORIES
Circuit Race Car Rally Drift
Go Kart MotorcycleDrag
MOTORSPORT CATEGORIESMOTORSPORT CATEGORIES
Racing
• Motor sports which involve competitors racing
against each other include
Non-Racing
• Forms of motorsport which do not involve racing include
drifting, regularity rally, motorcycle trials, gymkhana &
Freestyle Motocross.
• Usually got Professional Judges will be judge the points.
Pit Stop
• In motorsports, a pit
stop is where a racing
vehicle stops in the pits
during a race for
refuelling, new tyres,
repairs, mechanical
adjustments, a driver
change, as a penalty, or
any combination of the
above.
Pit Crew
• The pits usually comprise a pit lane which runs
parallel to the start/finish straight and is connected
at each end to the main track, and a row of garages
(usually one per team) outside which the work is
done.
• Pit stop work is carried out by anywhere from two to
twenty mechanics (also called a "pit crew"),
depending on the series regulations
Introduction of Motorsport / Auto Racing
Race Track / Circuit
• Facility built for racing of vehicles. A race track also
may feature grandstands, concourses and paddock.
• Some motorsport tracks are called speedways.
• Allowing races to occur over several laps.
• Racetracks designed for competition through speed,
featuring defined start-finish lines or posts.
• Most racetracks with many curves and chicanes to
allow for a challenge in skill to the competitors.
Race Track Design
• Chicanes• Curves
Racing Circuit in Malaysia
Racing Line
The racing line is the route a racing driver follows in order to take
corners in the fastest possible way.
Why we need racing line?
By using all of the available space on the track, cars can travel in
a straighter line and travel faster before reaching the limits of
grip.
Full Track Racing Line
Race Marshall
• Marshals are also
known as course
workers, corner
workers, corner crews,
turn marshals, corner
marshals, track safety
workers, or other
equivalents around the
world.
Race Marshall Flags
Racing flags are traditionally used in auto racing and similar
motorsports to indicate track condition and to communicate
important messages to drivers.
Official Motorsport Organization
INTERNATIONAL
FIA Institute
• The FIA Institute is an international not-for-profit
organization that develops and improves motor
sport safety and sustainability.
• Encourage the rapid development of new and
improved :
Safety technologies
Facilitate
Education and training
Awareness of safety
Sustainability issues
Official Motorsport Organization
NATIONAL LEVEL
AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION OF
MALAYSIA (AAM) having been
delegated powers to control the
sport Automobilism by the FIA & FIM
in Malaysia.
MOTORSPORTS ASSOCIATION OF
MALAYSIA ("MAM") has been
established for the purpose of
developing and growing motor sport
in Malaysia.
Competition Licence
• You are entitled to compete in any national competition organised
or approved by MAM or Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM)
if you hold a valid competition licence. To be a competitor you will
need to register and submit your particulars to MAM in order to
obtain a licence.
CAUTION!!!!!!
“ MOTORSPORT MAYBE DANGEROUS”
• Safety First
• Follow Rules & Regulations
• Wear a proper & suitable
protection
• Well prepare & discipline
• Be alert & responsible

Function of Safety Equipments
Equipment Function
Front Safety Clips
Keep the hood buttoned down in the event the main latch
should fail - preventing the hood panel from flying open
at speed.
Rear Safety Clips
Keep the rear trunk buttoned down and preventing the
trunk from pop-up if the latch fail or hit from back side.
Safety Net
Keep the things or driver in the car safe from flying out
when the car roll over.
Fire Extinguisher
A part of racing requirement as fire preventive
equipment.
Supply Cut Off Switch
To cut power supply immediately when emergency
situation.
Safety Harness
A safety harness is a form of protective equipment
designed to protect a person.

Engine &
Transmission
Chassis
Introduction of Motorsport / Auto Racing
Upgrade your tires to make sure this new power
can make it to the ground without unnecessary
wheel spin and over, under or torque steer. You
will most likely need:
 Sticky tires that will last at least 1,000
miles.
 New bushings for your control arms.
 New ball joints
 Stiffer shocks with shorter coils
Tire & Traction
Upgrade to Teflon Bush
Upgrade Shock Absorber
Semi Slick Tire
TOYO PROXES R888
Tire Selection
Sport Type Semi Slick Type Fully Slick Type
Improve grip on road surface:
• Change to good/better tyre traction
and threadware (Sport tire/Slick tire)
• Wheel Alignment adjustment for
better handling.(Toe,Camber,Caster)
• Rims size and tyre width.
Chassis & Handling Upgrade
• A chassis consists of an internal framework
that supports a man-made object in its
construction and use.
• An example of a chassis is the underpart of a
motor vehicle, consisting of the frame (on
which the body is mounted) with the wheels
and machinery.
Any good chassis must do several
things:
• Be structurally sound in every way over the
expected life of the vehicle and beyond. This
means nothing will ever break under normal
conditions.
• Maintain the suspension mounting locations so
that handling is safe and consistent under high
cornering and bump loads.
• Support the body panels and other passenger
components so that everything feels solid and
has a long, reliable life..
• Protect the occupants from external intrusion.
Chassis Design
Body Strengthen & Lighten
• Chassis reinforcement/ body rigidity
modification isn't something that should be
performed without careful thought.
• It all depends on different car models and
their structure.
• Each car has a weakness and to pin point that
is the key. This guide will show you the best
chassis reinforcement for you car and
specification.
