Interactive Learning
Project Description:
As part of your bid on a project to build an interactive learning
environment for Reliable Interworks Builders, you are preparing
a presentation that will hopefully convince the company to hire
you. In this project, you will enhance the graphical elements in
your presentation by creating and formatting WordArt and
SmartArt, adding and formatting shapes, and manipulating
objects.
Instructions:
For the purpose of grading the project you are required to
perform the following tasks:
Step Instructions Points Possible
1 Start PowerPoint. Download and open the presentation
named Exploring_p03_Grader_IR.pptx. 0
2 On the first slide, between the two pictures, insert a right-
facing Block Arrow (default style) that is 0.5 inches high and
2.5 inches wide. Position it so that the left border aligns at the
1.5-inch mark to the left of 0 on the horizontal ruler and the top
border aligns at the 1-inch mark under 0 on the vertical ruler. 10
3 Apply the Preset Style 4 Shape Effect to the arrow on Slide
1. 4
4 On Slide 2, insert an Elbow Arrow Connector starting at
the bottom-center connection point of the Build Elements shape
and ending at the top-center connection point of the Develop
Strategies shape. 4
5 On the same slide, align the top three shapes by the top.
Align the lower three shapes by the bottom. Distribute the lower
three shapes horizontally.9
6 On the same slide, format all of the connector arrows with
the Moderate Line - Accent 5 shape style. Format all of the
rounded rectangles with the Moderate Effect - Brown, Accent 4
shape style. 6
7 On Slide 2, group all of the shapes, including the
connector arrows, except for the Title Shape. 4
8 On Slide 3, insert a Gradient Fill - Brown, Accent 4,
Reflection WordArt containing the text DID YOU KNOW?
using the default size. Position the WordArt so that the top-left
corner aligns with the -3.25-inch mark (to the left of 0) on the
horizontal ruler and the 1.5-inch mark (above 0) on the vertical
ruler. Apply the Colored Fill - Tan, Accent 5 shape style to the
shape containing the WordArt. 10
9 On Slide 4, insert a text box beginning at the 2.25-inch
mark to the left of 0 on the horizontal ruler and the 2-inch mark
above 0 on the vertical ruler. Add the text Which Are
Measurable? to the text box and change the font size to 30 pt. 8
10 Change the color tone of the X graphic on Slide 4 to
Temperature: 4700 K and change the color tone of the check
mark graphic to Temperature 11200 K. 6
11 On Slide 4, adjust the order of the elements on the slide so
that the two graphical objects appear behind all of the other
objects on the slide. 6
12 On Slide 5, insert a Titled Matrix SmartArt diagram in the
content placeholder. Add the word Motivate to the center shape,
the word Engage to the top-left shape, the word Involve to the
top-right shape, the word Stimulate to the bottom-left shape,
and the word Compel to the bottom-right shape. 14
13 Change the SmartArt color theme to Colorful Range -
Accent Colors 3 to 4 (third theme under colorful) and change
the style of the SmartArt to Subtle Effect. 8
14 On Slide 8, convert the text to a Grouped List SmartArt
diagram and apply the Subtle Effect style to the diagram. 11
15 Save the presentation. Close the presentation and then exit
PowerPoint. Submit the presentation as directed. 0

Wildfire is a common threat and natural occurrence.
Maintaining an appropriate defensible space around your home
is essential. Zone 1: Clear trees within 30 feet of your home and
create hardscaped surfaces such as patios and walkways to
create a fire resistant buffer. Avoid wooden decks and stacking
firewood close to your home. Zone 2: Thin shrubs and trees in
the 10-foot wide zone. Remaining trees should be pruned to 10
feet above ground. Zone 3: Keep grasses mown low between
trees for at least 10 feet.

Fire Aware Landscaping
Project Description:
You began a presentation on Waterwise landscaping and
concentrated on the content of the presentation. You decide to
use the SmartArt feature to create infographics to demonstrate a
process and to incorporate shapes to demonstrate concepts.
Instructions:
For the purpose of grading of the project you are required to
perform the following tasks:
Step Instructions Points Possible
1 Start PowerPoint. Open the downloaded PowerPoint
presentation named Exploring_p03_Grader_EOC.pptx. 0
2 On Slide 8, insert an oval shape (under Basic Shapes) that
is 4 inches tall and 10 inches wide at the 5-inch mark to the left
of 0 on the horizontal ruler and the 2.75-inch mark above 0 on
the vertical ruler. 10
3 Arrange the inserted oval so that it appears behind all
other objects on the slide and change the fill color of the oval to
Light Green (under Standard Colors). 6
4 Select the three oval shapes on Slide 8. Align the ovals by
their centers and middles, and then group them together. 9
5 Change the height of the clip art image of the house on
Slide 8 to 1.5 inches. Position the image so that the top left
corner aligns with 0.75-inches to the left of 0 on the horizontal
ruler and 2.25-inches above 0 on the vertical ruler. 4
6 On Slide 8, draw a left-pointing arrow that is 2 inches
long. Position the left edge of the arrow at 2.75-inches to the
left of 0 on the horizontal ruler and 1-inch above 0 on the
vertical ruler. Set the weight of the arrow to 1 pt and change the
color to White, Background 1 (under Theme Colors). 14
7 On Slide 3, convert the bulleted text below the title
Wildfire Aware Options, to a Continuous Arrow Process
SmartArt (in the Process group). Apply the Polished SmartArt
style (under 3-D), and change the text fill color for each text
block in the arrow to White, Background 1 (under Theme
Colors). 14
8 On Slide 9, insert a Vertical Block List SmartArt graphic.
8
9 On Slide 9, add a fourth Level 1 shape to the SmartArt
graphic. 5
10 On Slide 9, modify the layout of the SmartArt graphic so
that each Level 1 bullet is followed by only one Level 2 bullet.
8
11 In the text pane of the SmartArt graphic on Slide 9, enter
the following text: 1 Develop Landscape Plan 2
Condition Your Soil 3 Limit Lawn Size 4
Irrigate Efficiently 8
12 Position the SmartArt graphic on Slide 9 so that the top
left corner is at 3.5 inches to the left of 0 on the horizontal ruler
and 2 inches above 0 on the vertical ruler. 2
13 On Slide 1, apply the Gradient Fill – Indigo, Accent 6,
Inner Shadow WordArt style to the title, Conserve. 6
14 Apply a Transform text effect to the title, Conserve, on
Slide 1 using the Chevron Up style (under Warp). 6

The Cornell System
Divide page into two vertical sections
Section A: questions about information in Section B
Section B: actual notes from lecture
Can be modified to include a third section across the bottom of
the page
Section C: additional summary comments
Referred to as a “T System” because it resembles an upside-
down T
If you get lost while taking notes
Politely ask the instructor to repeat the information or slow
down
If the instructor is unable repeat or slow down
Leave a blank space with a question mark where the missed
information should appear
Obtain the missed information from the instructor or a
classmate after class
Using your laptop
Set up your computer prior to class
Be respectful of other students; some might be annoyed by the
tapping of keys
Do not worry about spelling or grammar; these can be corrected
later
Set tabs for specific note-taking systems prior to class
Use the system that works for you!
