PowerPoint Chapter 3: Homework Project 1
Fire Aware Landscaping
Project Description:
You began a presentation on Waterwise landscaping and
concentrated on the content of the presentation. You decide to
use the SmartArt feature to create infographics to demonstrate a
process and to incorporate shapes to demonstrate concepts. You
decide to create shapes to explain the concept of creating zones
to protect a home from fire and indicate the depth of the zones
on the landscape. You stack three oval shapes to create the
zones, and then you use a combination of text boxes and online
pictures to create the landscape.
Instructions:
For the purpose of grading the project you are required to
perform the following tasks:
Step Instructions Points Possible
1 Start PowerPoint. Download and open the presentation
named exploring_p03_grader_h1.pptx. 0
2 On Slide 12, insert an oval shape (under Basic Shapes) that
is 4 inches tall and 9 inches wide with the top-left sizing handle
at the 4.50-inch mark to the left of 0 on the horizontal ruler and
the center-left sizing handle at the 0.5-inch mark above 0 on the
vertical ruler. 15
3 Arrange the inserted oval so that it appears behind all
other objects on the slide and change the fill color of the oval to
a custom RGB color: Red: 51, Green: 102, and Blue: 0, and a
Transparency of 50%. 8
4 Select the three oval shapes on Slide 12. Align the ovals
by their centers and middles, and then group them together.
12
5 On Slide 3, convert the bulleted text below the title
Wildfire Aware Options to a Continuous Arrow Process
SmartArt (in the Process group). 9
6 Apply the Polished SmartArt style (under 3-D), and change
the text color for each text block in the arrow to White,
Background 1 (under Theme Colors). 9
7 On Slide 12, create a left-pointing line arrow that begins
near the left edge of the house image and points to the edge of
the Zone 1 oval. Position the left edge of the arrow at 2.5-
inches to the left of 0 on the horizontal ruler and 0.5 inches
above 0 on the vertical ruler. Set the weight of the arrow to 1 pt
and change the color to White, Background 1 (under Theme
Colors). 18
8 On Slide 13 insert a Basic Chevron Process SmartArt
graphic. 11
9 In the text pane of the SmartArt graphic on Slide 13, enter
the following text
1 Develop Landscape Plan 2 Condition Your Soil 3
Limit Lawn Size 8
10 Position the SmartArt graphic on Slide 13 so that the top
left corner is at 3.5 inches to the left of 0 on the horizontal ruler
and 2 inches above 0 on the vertical ruler. 3
11 On Slide 1, apply the Pattern Fill - Dark Blue, Accent 3,
Narrow Horizontal, Inner Shadow WordArt style to the title,
Conserve. 7
12 Save the presentation. Close the presentation and then exit
PowerPoint. Submit the presentation as directed. 0

Zone 3
Wildfire is a common threat and natural occurrence.
Maintaining an appropriate defensible space around your home
is essential. Zone 1: Clear trees within 30 feet of your home and
create hardscaped surfaces such as patios and walkways to
create a fire resistant buffer. Avoid wooden decks and stacking
firewood close to your home. Zone 2: Thin shrubs and trees in
the 10 foot wide zone. Remaining trees should be pruned to 10
feet above ground. Zone 3: Keep grasses mown low between
trees for at least 10 feet.
