What is HTO? Hinjewadi has witnessed the exponential growth with the establishment of the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, which have one of the best IT, Biotech & Engineering firms in India and houses more than 55,000 employees in total and it is expected to go up to 800,000 with completion of all 6 phases. Net Impact Pune realized the need to proactively come forward and work towards addressing the ever growing traffic problems at Hinjewadi. They christened this engagement as the  “Hinjewadi Traffic Optimization ” (HTO) Project to provide solutions for solving traffic problem at Hinjewadi. Phase III is all set to double the existing Hinjewadi Infotech Park Area and Head count.  Are we prepared?
Approach for HTO? 6,789  employees responded from companies in Hinjewadi Employees from Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro, Geometric, 3D PLM, KPIT  Cummins, Siemens PLM participated
Key Findings Hinjewadi Professional Community Residence Distribution 53% of commuters stay in Aundh/ Baner/ Pashan/ Wakad areas 70% of commuters stay in Aundh/ Baner/ Pashan/ Wakad + Kothrud areas
Key Findings.. Morning Commute Time to Hinjewadi Statistical Mode of Population Evening Commute Time from Hinjewadi Statistical Mode of Population 64% take half to 1 Hour to reach Hinjewadi 19% take more than an Hour to reach Hinjewadi 47% take more than an Hour to reach their homes from Hinjewadi, a marked increase from the 19% of the same population in the morning
Key Findings.. Mode of Transport distribution Recommendation PMPML/Corporate should look for various means for mass transport. This can facilitate reduction number of private vehicles coming to Hinjewadi. Majority of the professionals (53%) use Company Bus to travel to Hinjewadi However, a substantial 44% of them use their personal vehicles to reach Office Merely,  3% population uses PMPML buses
Key Findings.. Inclination to Switch to Government Bus Sizeable number of Professionals  (56.6%)  have  expressed desire to switch to the  Government Bus Service
Key Findings.. Professionals residing in Baner, Wakad, & Swargate/Katraj belt indicated the highest interest to switch to the PMPML Bus service 57.77% - Ready to switch; 26.96% - Not ready to switch; 15.27% - Not decided Inclination to Switch to Government Bus
Key Findings.. Hinjewadi Incoming Traffic Timing Distribution PMPML must increase the frequency of their Bus service to Hinjewadi from every 45 minutes (existing) to 15 minutes. PMPML can run the bus services to complement the existing Company Bus during rush hours Professionals arrive throughout the day to Hinjewadi, with the rush hour from 7 AM to 10 AM.  Recommendation
Key Findings.. Hinjewadi Outgoing Traffic Timing Distribution PMPML can explore increasing the frequency of Bus service from Hinjewadi for late evening schedule supported by the much dispersed evening rush hour pattern Professionals leave for Home from Hinjewadi throughout the day, with a larger rush hour from 5 PM to 9 PM. Recommendation
Recommendations - PMPML PMPML –Short Term Action Increase frequency of bus service  - Public bus service to Hinjewadi in every 15 minutes  during peak hours from high pocket regions such as Aundh, Baner ,Pashan, Wakad, and Kothrud which accounts for 70% of commuters to Hinjewadi. PMPML could provide increase the number of buses provided to Corporate.They can make round trips again later Improved Quality of buses  - Good Quality, Higher fare to  promote public transport (60% respondents prefer exclusive buses for professionals) Services - Adequate Bus stands  – PMPML should coordinate with MIDC to provide proper Bus stands in Hinjewadi Ph1 and Ph2 Online and flexible Bus pass  – Flexibility in getting bus pass say for 1 day, 1 week or monthly online pass to encourage usage of Bus service PMPML –Long Term Action Pilot launch of BRTS routes from  Aunch, Kothrud, Chinchwad, and Swar Gate  Introducing cashless travel through smart cards and introducing LCD Panels in Buses for generating advertising revenue
Benefits  Underlying Basic Assumptions-   50% of employees commuting by personal vehicles switch  PMPML expenses per kilometer -18 Rs/km (Operational expenses) Average Bus Capacity -  40 passengers Description  Annual Revenue Revenue for PMPML (Ticket Collection & Advertising revenue) Rs.  25  crore
