What numbers should be multiplied to
get
Factors, Multiples, Prime and Composite Numbers
Thus, 1,2,3,6,9 and 18 are factors of 18.
Let us try multiplying 3 by 1 to 7.
3x1 =3 3x5 =15
3x2 =6 3x6 = 18
3x3 =9 3x7 = 21
3x4 = 12
3,6,9,12,15,18,and 21 are multiples of 3. They are
all divisible by 3.
Let us have another example.
Find the multiples of 6.
6x1 =
6x2 =
6x3 =
6x4 =
6x5 =
Therefore 6,12,18,24,and 30 are
multiples of 6.
Look at the previous examples. How many
factors does 12 have?
How about 18?
If a number has more than 2 factors, it is a
composite number. Can you give other
composite numbers?
Look at the factors of the following.
7= 1x7 29= 1x29
11= 1x11 31= 1x31
13= 1x13 59= 1x 59
17= 1x 17
What can you say about the numbers above?
They have exactly 2 factors, 1 and itself. Those
numbers are called prime numbers. Can you
give other prime numbers?
Remember
_________ are the numbers we multiply to
get a product.
When a number is multiplied by 1,2,3, and so
on, the products are called the ________ of
that number.
_________ numbers are numbers with more
than two factors.
_________numbers are numbers that have
only two factors, 1 and itself.
Exercises: Give all the factors of each.
