Using IFTTT to follow topics on Twitter

- 3. Create an applet 1. Go to My Applets 2. Click on the New Applet button
- 4. IF THIS = Source Click on +this to start the applet
- 6. Choose “New Tweet from search” as the “trigger”
- 7. In this step, you will set up what you want to receive from Twitter. Click on “search operators” to learn how to create a more advanced search using hashtags or connectors such as AND, OR, NOT, etc.
- 9. In this step, select the method by which you wish to receive results. If you have not yet set up the service, you will be prompted to do so. Depending on your search, you may wish to receive a daily or weekly email digest of all the relevant tweets.
- 10. There is only one action for email.
- 11. Use Complete Action fields to customize the email you receive. Click on Add Ingredient to select IFTTT fields to include in the email
- 12. Customized email By changing the subject to “Health Care Reform on Twitter” and adding the Text to the body of the email, I can now easily find all of the related emails in my Inbox and have the information I need to determine whether a tweet will be useful a useful lead for my research.
- 13. As a final step, review your applet. This is the title of your applet—not easy to understand. Select the text to change it.
- 14. By using a title that is meaningful, one can later identify the applet and delete it when it stops being relevant. Don’t forget to click “Finish” to save the applet!
- 15. This is confirmation that your applet is saved.
- 16. To delete an Applet, go to My Applets and select the appropriate applet. Click on the gear icon. Scroll to the bottom of the Configure page to delete the applet.
