Good design isn’t about pixel-perfect mock-ups, but instead,
creatively solving business problems.
UI UX
As a startup, you are often posed with the question
Should I focus on good user experience, or
push something out quickly?
If the product/service that you are building is novel and new, but the
desirability isn't immediately obvious to the customer, then the UX efforts
will need to focus on communicating WHY this product is important to the
user. It needs to have an immediate "Oh, that's cool!" impact. (We're not
talking flashy, superfluous graphics here. We're talking core communication
of why this product is something the user needs.)
{2011}
{today}
Here’s how square rebranded
their website. In 2011, the
website is focussed on the
narrative of ‘What is Square?’.
Today, with a customer centric
approach, their website is
focussed on how square can
help you grow your business.
To communicate the need for the an evacuation management platform,
first time users of a mobile app are given a walkthrough.
(Crafted by Meraki Design in collaboration with FastEvac)
30% of users would spend more money with an organization that has a good
mobile app.
APP ATTENTION SPAN STUDY (2014)
GOOGLE STUDY: WHAT USERS WANT MOST FROM MOBILE SITES TODAY (2012)
61% of users said that if they didn’t find what they were looking for right away
on a mobile site, they’d quickly move on to another site.
ECONSULTANCY- USER EXPERIENCE SURVEY REPORT. (2013)
More than 9 out of 10 (95%) agreed with the statement that good user experience
just makes sense.

Reorganizing information on
a Realtor’s website
San Francisco based realtor Ruth Krishnan was looking for a complete
overhaul of her WordPress website. She turned to Meraki Design to update
their existing, overly complex information architecture and redesign the
user interface. The goal: focus on identifying crucial information that a
buyer-seller is looking for and make every step of that process easy.
CASE STUDY
Process
1. Identifying the problem using stakeholder interviews + user research
2. Ideating the solution by defining user goals + preparing site maps
3. Prototype the solution by wire framing each end user goal with a focus
on building a responsive solution
4. Test usability of website using user test scripts + review feedback
User Goals
With feedback from stakeholders and audience, website users were looking to
gather information on the following topics.
Information Architecture
Key Results
• Identifying the major goals of the website, changed the approach to updating
content on the website.
• Creating wireframes for the site ensured that every page was optimized for
mobile ensuring that all pages are readable and actionable.

Prototyping an Evacuation
Management Mobile App
Meraki Design worked with FastEvac, an EvoNexus startup to build their UX
Strategy. The team is trying to solve a critical workplace problem - Safe and
simple evacuations.
CASE STUDY
Process
1. User Research
1. Document the lean Canvas with stakeholders
2. User Interviews with coordinators to capture current experience
3. User Profiles of primary audience
2. Brainstorming a solution using whiteboard sessions + Balsamiq
3. Build a clickable prototype to review the solution
4. Test the solution with pilot users to gather feedback
Key Results
• During an evacuation, it is likely that a user is under high level of stress.
With an iterative prototype and test method of product development, we
were able to consistently refine the interaction to be simple and
straightforward.

Evaluating an innovative
healthcare platform idea
Health care entrepreneur and product management professional was
looking to build a beta to test the market for transparency in health care
services pricing. The question at hand: Are people interested in shopping for
Invisalign procedures based on pricing? Here’s how we approached user
experience on a budget.
CASE STUDY
Goal
To create a health care marketplace that allows consumers to make informed
choices on their Invisalign provider based on cost of the procedure.
Process
1. Data Collection: Collect data from 100+ service providers in San Francisco
2. Research: Interviews with 5 participants to understand how they shop for
an Invisalign provider, competitor research and build a journey map
3. Prototype: Design a solution that solves the pain points of the user.
4. Design + Build
5. Test the solution with Bay Area participants to evaluate the efficacy of the
beta
Key Results
• Through the UX exercises, we were able to understand customer
expectations. During the prototype, we began to understand the complexity
involved in providing a price quote to the end user.
