BACKGROUND OF THE BIBLE The Bible: 66 Different books, 1,189 chapters, and more than 31,000 verses, 3 Different Continents: Asia, Africa & Europe. Approximately 40 Different Authors over a 1,500 year period. 1. 2 Timothy 3:15-17: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Scripture, the Bible, according to this text, is profitable or beneficial for 1) doctrine or teaching, 2) reproof or showing us what we did that was not right, 3) correction or bringing us into the right way, 4) and instruction in righteousness. The Bible is God’s Basic Instructions Before leaving Earth! And the Bible contains God’s plan for our future. 2. 2 Peter 1:16-21: Prophecy is even more reliable than an eyewitness. Prophecy is not subject to any private interpretation. We must let God’s Word interpret itself. When the Bible interprets itself we can know that what we have found is true and reliable. Jesus tells us a key reason for prophecy in John 14:29. 3. John 14:29 Jesus tells us things before they take place so that when they do take place we will believe. How far in advance can God tell the future? What claim does He make? 4. Isaiah 46:9, 10: God tells us the end from the beginning. God can tell us in the beginning what will happen in the end! Can you do that? Not a chance! Now we are going to take a look at a foundational prophecy in the book of Daniel. This prophecy spans all of history to the present time. B. AN AMAZING DREAM: 5. Daniel 2:26-30: Reasons for Nebuchadnezzar’s dream: 1.To show what would happen in the latter days/time of the end. 2.To show what would happen between Nebuchadnezzar’s day and the end of time. 6. Daniel 2:31-35: Daniel tells the dream: 1 Head Gold 2 Breast & Arms Silver 3 Belly & Thighs Brass 4 Legs Iron 5 Feet Iron & Clay 6 Stone Destroys Image 7 Stone (becomes a) Mountain Filling Earth C. AN AMAZING INTERPRETATION: 7. Daniel 2:36-38: Nebuchadnezzar is told that he is the head of gold. 8. Daniel 1:1: Nebuchadnezzar was King of Babylon. As Babylon’s king, he represented his kingdom. Thus the head of Gold was Babylon. Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon ruled between 605 BC - 539 BC. 9. Daniel 2:39a: Another kingdom will arise after Babylon. 10. Daniel 5:1-6, 25-31: Babylon was conquered by Medo-Persia. Medo-Persia ruled between 539 BC - 331 BC. 11. Daniel 2:39b: A 3rd kingdom will arise after Medo-Persia. 12. Daniel 8:20, 21: This 3rd kingdom was Greece, the kingdom that came after Medo- Persia. Greece ruled between 331 BC -168 BC. 13. Daniel 2:40: A 4th kingdom will arise. Jesus was born during the time of this fourth kingdom.Who was ruling when Jesus was born? 14. Luke 2:1-5: Caesar was a Roman ruler! He taxed the whole world! Pagan Rome is represented by this fourth kingdom! Pagan Rome ruled between 168 BC – AD 476. 15. Daniel 2:41-45: (v 41 - would be divided) Rome was attacked by barbarian tribes, and divided into ten nations, many of which we recognize as the nations of modern Europe

Divided Rome spans to our day! (v 42,43 - shall not cleave one to another) They will try to reunite Europe, but they will fail. Down through history many have tried to reunite the Roman Empire. If you were to travel to Paris, France you would see evidence that Napoleon was on a quest to become the Emperor of a revived Roman Empire. But it didn't work because Waterloo got in the way. Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler were trying to do the same thing. They were on a quest to reunite Europe. There was a time where Queen Victoria was known as "The Grandmother of Europe." King Christian IX of Denmark was known as, "The Father in law of Europe." There was so much intermarriage that took place in an attempt to reunite the Roman empire that people saw it for what it was. But did they succeed? No, because they couldn’t. Today people are trying to reunite Europe through diplomatic means, but it hasn't happened. And that’s because God has said, "They will not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with miry clay." Truly God can tell the end from the beginning! 16. Matthew 21:44: The event that culminates the reign of divided Rome is God establishing His Kingdom. God will establish His Kingdom next and it will last for eternity! The stone turns the metal man into dust that is blown away by the wind. The wicked will be crushed under the rock that represents Christ’s Return, while the righteous will avoid this crushing because in their experience with Jesus they would have become broken and learned to trust and depend on Him and not themselves. If we stay with Jesus we will be broken, but not crushed! Christ will recreate this Earth in beauty and sinlessness and set up a kingdom on this Earth - this is represented by the stone becoming a great mountain and filling the Earth. God will set up His Kingdom: Is it your desire to be part of Christ’s Kingdom? Is it your desire to continue studying the Bible, the only book that is 100% accurate? D. A CRUCIAL CHOICE: 17. 2 Peter 1:5-11: (5) And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; (6) And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; (7) And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. (8) For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. (10) Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: (11) For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 1. Faith Believing in Jesus 2. Virtue Moral goodness 3. Knowledge Intelligence 4. Temperance Self-control 5. Patience Endurance 6. Godliness Reverence/ holiness 7. Brotherly kindness Love toward Christians 8. Charity Godly love Those who trust God to take them on the journey of developing the eight qualities mentioned above are promised an entrance in God's everlasting kingdom. At this stage we want to focus on the first step: Faith (in Jesus)!
