Methods of Access

  • Adapted Design
   • Retrofitting.
   • Removal of barriers.
  • Accessible Design
   • Accommodation.
   • Modification of policies and procedures.
   • Provision of auxiliary aids & services.

Universal Design
  • Universal design is the design theory that
       products, services and environments
should be designed to include a broader
range of the population including those
with varying disabilities. The key premise
is that by designing for “inclusiveness”,
the design will be better for everyone.

  • It seeks to “destigmitize” disabilities and
the so called solutions that are marketed
       to the disabled.

Principles of
          Universal Design
  • Equitable Use • Perceptible
                                            Information
  • Flexibility in Use
  • Clear and • Low Physical
                                            Effort
       Intuitive Use

  • Tolerance for • Size and Space

Universal Design

  • The intent of universal design is to
simplify life for everyone by making
       products, communications, and the built
environment more usable by as many
people as possible at little or no extra
cost. Universal design benefits people of
       all ages and abilities.

A03: Scavenger Hunt
  • You need a partner, to find your partner...
find a person in class with the same face
value card, but opposite color card as you.
Example: Q of Spades can partner with Q
       of Hearts, or Diamonds.

      • Make sure at least one member of the
group has access to a digital camera of
           some sort.

      • Dress for the weather!
