The Kurdish people are an ethnic group of approximately 23 million people who primarily live in Turkey, Iraq, Iran, and Syria. They speak Kurdish languages and have a long history of living in the mountainous region spanning those countries. While some Kurdish autonomous areas have been established, Kurds still face issues with full political recognition and rights in the countries they reside in due to policies of assimilation.
