This document summarizes a study on students' views of the impact of the statistical software package SPSS on their learning of statistics. The study was conducted with students taking applied statistics courses that incorporated SPSS tutorials, exercises and a practical exam. Students completed a questionnaire rating the impact of SPSS on their attitudes, understanding of concepts, and ability to do statistics. The results suggest that most students saw SPSS as having a positive impact on their self-confidence, interest in research, and understanding of statistical concepts. However, some students still struggled with flexibly representing data in different ways within SPSS.
