This document summarizes a presentation on improving highway traffic flows using smart technologies. It discusses how traffic jams cost the Vietnamese economy over $10 billion annually and cause over 700,000 years of lost time each year. A major cause of traffic jams is car braking, which accounts for 30-40% of jams. The presentation proposes using vehicle-to-vehicle communication and an intelligent transportation system to advise vehicles of optimal speeds to reduce unnecessary braking and smooth traffic flow. Future work could involve expanding the use of big data analysis to provide more advanced traffic modeling and management.
