This document provides an update on core curriculum assessment at a Texas college. It outlines how to align assignments to rubrics in the assessment system. Faculty are encouraged to continue teaching core objectives like critical thinking and teamwork. Simplified new rubrics for personal responsibility, social responsibility, and teamwork will be introduced in the fall. Contact information is provided for those needing assistance.
2017 Spring Assessment Update
- 1. Core Curriculum Assessment Update Texas Core Objectives Spring, 2017
- 3. Aligning Assignments to Rubrics • Next to the assignment title, click the down arrow. From the pop-up menu, choose Add Alignments. • A long list of rubrics will appear. Check the rubric(s) you wish to connect to the assignment you just created.
- 4. Aligning Rubrics, cont. • Click Submit. There should now be a notation of the rubric(s) below your assignment.

Our Spring Assessment Tasks • Keep finding ways to teach the Texas Core Objectives within your curriculum. – Critical Thinking – Communication (Written, Oral, Visual) – Empirical and Quantitative Skills – Teamwork – Personal Responsibility, esp. Ethical Reasoning – Social Responsibility, esp. Civic Engagement • Think forward with your discipline colleagues to next Fall’s assessments. – New, simplified rubrics for Social Responsibility, Personal Responsibility and Teamwork are coming!
