The study investigates filamentous bacteria in activated sludge at a wastewater treatment plant over one year using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. A total of 28 filamentous bacteria genera were identified, with significant variations in community structure influenced by the food/microorganisms ratio (F/M ratio) calculated using active volatile suspended solids (AVSS) instead of mixed liquor volatile suspended solids (MLVSS). The findings suggest that AVSS is a more suitable measure for evaluating operational parameters in wastewater treatment processes.
