- 2. In cell A1, type “MOVIE COLLECTION DATABASE.” In cell A2, type “School’s Film Showing Event.” In row 4, type the subheadings.
- 3. Change the column widths to fit the content Merge and Center the data in cells A1:F1 and A2:F2 Place the subheadings at the center of each cell Create linear single-series using AutoFill feature for the movie numbers in Column A. Type “1” then drag down the fill handle until you reach the number 30. Note: You can also create a linear series if you drag the fill ahndle to its adjacent cells while holding Ctrl key.
- 4. Type the movie titles in column B
- 5. Enter a list of items in a single-column range. Starting cell G1, type the different kinds of movie categories you have.
- 6. Select the cell that will contain the list. Select C5 On the Data tab in the Data Tools group, click Data Validation. The Data Validation dialog box will appear.
- 7. From the settings tab in the allow drop-down list, choose list. Specify the range that will contain the list. Click the Source box and select G1:G6 (depending on your list). Click C5, You will notice that as you select C5, tooltip will appear with the text you specified in the input message tab. Note: You can do the same direction to the other subheadings.
- 8. Select B5:E34 On the data tab in the Sort & Filter group, click Sort. The sort dialog box will appear. In the Sort by drop-down list, choose TITLE. Make sure that A to Z is selected in the Order option.
- 9. Click OK. You will notice that the movie titles are now sorted in ascending order. To see movie titles that are in the drama category, use the filter command. Click anywhere in your data, and then on the data tab. In the Sort & Filter group, click Filter. You will notice the drop-down arrows in your table headers. Save the files as movie.xls.
